I have an HCL icon me 1045L core i3 laptop purchased on April 2013. Apart from a noisy fan and heating issue, no problems so far. But recently it fell down and the back cover broken slightly. Eventually it became serious issue and broken right side of the back cover corner. Thus closing and open became difficult. If I keep like that, it might have been a disastrous at least I can save my display it I repair this stage. Hence tried to replace the back cover from local market. This is the time I came to know that HCL parts are not available in local market. Where as other companies like HP, Lenovo, Dell etc available easily and price also cheep. After visiting many repair centers in Bangalore Kalasipalayam, finally decided to call HCL customer care and they gave me the address of HCL Bangalore service center. After checking the availability of the part, they confirmed me next day, the LCD support and back cover plastic panel cost around Rs.6300. Remember it is made of Plastic! The guy was kind enough to reduce his service charge.
Better look for brands like Lenovo, Dell, HP etc so that parts are easily available in local markets. HCL making profit by creating non availability of laptop parts in local market and charge huge money from its customers. If they stop producing parts means, less chance to get your product repaired and became unusable. They are not thinking that this way of business is not good for long run. If you decided to buy HCL product means you are ready to face risks.
