We went to Guwahati for only 2 days as my husband got a holiday for 4 days. We went on November, 2010.

We traveled with the Saraighat Express. The train was very late and as a result we reached Guwahati next day at about 3 p.m. As because we had little time we quickly booked a hotel situated near the station and somehow bathe and headed for Kamakkha Temple. We had gone there mainly for the Puja. We quickly got out from our hotel and got in an auto-rickshaw and the estimated time taken to travel from hotel to the temple was about 30 minutes. The auto-rickshaw roamed from mountains to mountains and at last we reached Kamakkha Temple at about 4:30 p.m. We were in a hurry as the temple closed at 5 p.m. We were extremely lucky, as I have heard that the people who go to pray there have to stand in a huge line from the morning and would get access to the temple at evening and we had to stand in no line and no money was taken for entering in the temple and as soon as we entered the temple two more persons entered it and then the gates were closed! So close!

We prayed to god very peacefully and by taking as much as time we can, without in a hurry.

When we got out from the temple it was very dark and night had fallen. We saw that most of the people in the temple had gone home and only a few shops were still open but there were no people on the road. We were unable to find our auto-rickshaw. We asked a shopkeeper about our auto-rickshaw he said that it was dark and dangerous at night as cheetahs can come in anytime come out of nowhere. He also added that all auto-rickshaws are mostly found at the other side of the road. He pointed out the place to us. We were quickly going to his pointed and we were amazed to see that only our auto-rickshaw was there but the driver was missing. As soon as we got near the auto-rickshaw the driver came out of somewhere. He quickly got in  and asked us to get in the vehicle quickly. He told us that the place was not at all safe at night. He quickly got us out of there. The streets were very dark and we somehow reached our hotel. We were very hungry so we made our way to a hotel and had our meal. After that we watched some T.V. and went to sleep as because we had to leave for Shillong in the morning.
