>I’ve no clue what Mani Sir is upto these days. IfGuru **is what am gonna expect from him in the coming time, I better erase him from my good books.

Alright, it’s a movie based on somebody’s life or may be not. Irrespective of that, as an audience what I’m looking for is, the development of characters, justification of the proceedings and in the end director’s stand on the whole issue. Because, considering the subject, you just can’t say, this is just a story and I’ll tell it the way it is and I’ve no stand on it. Naah, not done. In a way, you are making a movie, through which you’re talking to the audience and making a point. I don’t understand how is Mani ratnam making a point here. It’s a no-brainer to conclude that the climax is the weakest link in the whole movie. I quite didn’t understand how Guru justified all his wrong doings and became a hero in the end? What am I? A stupid, sitting in the hall and you’ll feed me whatever nonsense you’ve got. He might be a hero. But from the movie, I don’t quite get it. So Mr. Mani ratnam was sleeping or what?

The first half is fine, because you’re building up the characters and subsequently the story. Hence the easier part. But what do you show in the second half? A constant fight between Guru and the press (read, The Independent). That’s fine and it’s almost a no-brainer to understand that Guru will be the winner in the end. But it’s the director’s responsibility to show the audience, how. Does Mr. Mani explain that? I don’t think so. What we get in the end is a speech from Guru bhai, which has no meaning in itself, let alone convincing the panel of juries. It’s almost like, Mani saying, ok guys, now that you all know that Guru is supposed to be the winner, so let’s wrap things up with a final speech. No matter how meaningless the speech may be, in the context of the proceedings or the charges against him.

Same happened in case of Yuva. A fantastic movie wasted in the climax. The only difference is, minus the climax Yuva was a good movie and with a fitting climax it could have been a great movie. And by no means Guru is even close to a decent movie.

Then again Guru entertains you in patches. Dialogues are crisp. Some scenes are really good. Like, Gurukant’s conversation with Sujatha’s father, Sujatha asking Guru to take her with him, when the train is moving already. There are couple of more, which deserve special mention. But some scenes that is. The high point in the movie was perhaps “Maiya Maiya” by Ms. Sherawat and it was all downhill then on.

Abhishekmight have given his best performance ever or whatever. But is he the best guy around to play the role or did he do justice to the character? That’s what matters to me. The answer is an emphatic NO. Am not paying 150/- bucks to see a mediocre actor with limited acting talent playing such a strong character. **I must feel for the character. If I don’t, then you’re no good.

Aishwarya has nothing to do in the movie and that’s the best part. She shouldn’t do anything in any movie. She’ll surely irritate you, if she tries to do something or to prove a point. Thank God and Mani for taking care of that part. Though she tries to dance in the songs with her stiffed body movements (as if she’s mugged up all the steps and is reproducing here) and completes her quota of irritation.

Madhavan and Ms. Balan have inconsequential and loosely etched characters. So it’s a waste of time to even discuss if they did justice to their characters. None of them is talented enough to force me to feel sorry for them.

Mithunda has been totally wasted. I don’t know how many people here would agree with me on that. But I felt he is too good an actor to be wasted like this. He is a powerhouse of talent that’s gone untapped over the years. Am not sure if it ever will be.

The verdict, I wouldn’t see the movie even for free.
