Saw Guru finally.Having heard and read all the ravings about the film I
expected an Oscar winner of an effort. But what came by on screen was a
poor script enrobed in some fabulous acting.
Abhishek
is just superb. He fits into Guru's shoes like his very own.Very
powerful performance.Manoj Joshi and Mithun are damn good in their
respective roles.Madhavan as always is worth every space of the screen
he occupies.damn good.Aishwarya Rai was supposedly good as per
reviews I read but frankly I think she was poor. All she had was a wimpy
role to tag along.so even a really good actress couldn't have done
justice simply due to limitations of the role.
Cinematography is
amazing.Bombay looks and reminds so much of of old days.Damn good
production values.Direction was good in the first half.slipped in the
second half. The biggest flaw of the film is its script(which should be
the strongest weapon).
As a viewer I was left with many questions.
-How does Guru land up in Istanbul with barely any education?
-Why does Mithun print Guru's story after meeting him just once?
-The sentence'Mujhe'naa' shabd samajh nahi aata' seems a little too impratical.
-Hopeless songs pushed into the story for no reason.
-Post intermission the movie begins crawling.very draggy.
-Why does the media print anything Guru wants printed?
-How is Guru a winner as per the posters? To me he seems like a man without any morals.
-Guru's arrogance gets on my nerves.
-The climax scene is impractical and unbelievable.
-Comparing unlawful business tactics to that of Gandhi's rejection for colonial rule and its law was simply outrageous.
Some good scenes:
1)Confrontation between Madhavan and Guru at Mithun's house.
2)Mithun demanding explanations from his newspaper reporters and editor in his office after his return from USA.
3)The scene between Abhishek and Madhavan in Madhavan's house.
Overall
an extremely over-hyped film.Worth Rs.50 for a morning show strictly
for good performances.A rupee more would be a waste of money.
