One name important in punjabi business is gurdas mann. He is still singing today, he's been around since the early 80's. When a gurdas mann cd comes out it's automatically an hit. He writes his own lyrics most of the time in his albums. He ha released over 27 albums.

Gurdas mann born on january 4, 1957 in giddarbaha faridkot district in punjab is a punjabi singer and also an actor. gurdas mann decided to sing at the age 7, and also did a lot of shows in his college and universities days and also did lot of stage shows. Gurdas mann is the real love of punjab, his latest album vilayatan is real impressive, it's a top seller.

He won numerous awards in the university for singing and acting. IN one of his stage plays he sang and wrote the lyrics for the song called dil da mamla hai, the play was seen by a producer of a tv station, who approcahed mann for a tv recording of a song, when the song was aired in the t.v in the 1980's it stormed the nation and gurdas mann became a very famous name. The song also came in the attention of the company HMV, who singed gurdas mann for his second album in 1981.

Mann wrote over 200 songs on his albums by himself, the other written by some famous known lyricists. He loves the rich culture of punjab and has sung many songs on the theme of punjab, punjabi language and punjabi culture songs like challa( the most popular song), apna punjab hove, punjabiye zubane, yaar punjabi, punjeeri and many more. HIs songs have a touch which makes his songs very popular in every class of audience. Gurdas mann believes in singing solo songs rather then a duet.

The 90's had been the era of performers and while most singers prefer all kinds of props during their performance he's one singer who has stuck by his gut and continues to hold audience attention all by himself. The song thora thora hasna zaroor chahida brings smile to everyone face.

He Has also acted in a lot of films and gotten a national award for the film called des hoya pardes jury's award for best actor, while saif ali khan got the best actor award for hum tum. He also starred in a hit film called shahid udham singh and won good reviews for his performance along with raj babbar. He has also worked with many bollywood's famous directors like laxmikant pyare lal, anu malik, nadeem sharavan etc.

He has always had a problem with charas (marijuana) that's not hiddden from anybody.

He has starred with bollywood's actress tabu and juhi chawla in a couple of films and sang hindi songs in hindi films.
