Gulaab Gang*1/2: A bunch of pink saree clad vigilantes led by a feisty yet emotional Rajjo (Madhuri) dispenses quick justice with the thumb rule 'Rod is God' until they find their lethal nemesis in scheming politico Sumitra Devi (Juhi) who's only religion is the power.
For an excellent actress like Madhuri, this role wasn't as much a challenge as it was for an equally astute yet underrated actor like Juhi to pull off the role of a strong headed ruthless villain so convincingly. Juhi leaves you stumped - often leaving you confused to hate or love her, all at the same time. And that's what Gulaab Gang should be watched for.
Not for its unyielding music that slackens pace, not for the screenplay and story that loses potential of being more thrilling, action packed and swift, dialogues that could have been more hard hitting. Director Soumik Sen wears too many hats - writing, dialogues, story, music and direction.
For a debutante director, he deserves applause for pulling off a coup in every way he could within the boundaries of his own story and screenplay that sadly weren't just as sharp as Rajjo's sickle.
