Safed Bhoot!. Review on Greg Chappell

Just as I am penning down this review, I am pleased to read on the homepage of MSN India: “Prince back, Badshah tells fans''

New Delhi, Dec 25: For the 20,000 people here watching Shah Rukh Khan perform Saturday, it was an unexpected announcement by the Bollywood badshah - ''Sourav Ganguly is back in the Indian team!''

People clapped and roared, seemingly welcoming the news.

''Congratulations! He is a good guy,'' said Shah Rukh, who is known for his keen interest in cricket and cricketers, as he enthralled audiences at the Temptation 2005 show.

People at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, the venue of the show, were on their toes cheering for the most successful Indian cricket captain who has been re-inducted into the team for the Pakistan Test series.

I have never witnessed so much support for a player's cause (on selection). It's awesome. It's wonderful to see people from all walks of life with only one mission- Sourav has to be in Team India! Emotionally they are correct, rationally even more!

Things seem to now moving in the right direction as far as Sourav Ganguly is concerned- this could also mean that now things are slowly not moving favorably towards his detractors way….

…and hence this review!!

Sharad Pawar definitely has a soft corner for dada and it did come in front of the curtains with his behind the curtains ear pulling of selectors and who knows probably Greg Chappell too!

So if Rahul Dravid has a father figure in Greg Chappell, Sourav now has that from Sharad Pawar and brother-figures in- Sachin, Yuvraj, Harbhajan, Sehwag, Zaheer, ex-players, the list is endless! And let’s not leave Dalmiya out even though he is ‘formally’ out of action but no way informally!

I am afraid that the likes like Kiran More will never learn from their mistakes and try hard to settle scores, desperately try to resurface and making a laughing stock of themselves!

Now to my favorite character of this entire episode- Greg Chappell:

Some pseudo-lateral thinker’s disillusion of Chappell as a man with a mission and only person, who can take India to the World Cup 2007, is based on ipso-dipso rational. If we take a peek down memory lane, we find that India has reached World Cup final twice and once under the captaincy of our very own Sourav Ganguly. So, even if India reaches World Cup final this time also, it would not be any eye-opener of sorts. By all accounts, Chappell is a run off the mill coach, nothing extraordinary about him. I have very strong doubts if India even makes it to the semi-finals of the upcoming World Cup if Chappell remains the coach!

Funny but true, only in India, anything white is perceived as great and all mighty. Such song and dance, in praise of a mediocre and a pompous coach is, very disconcerting and smacks of chamchagiri.

What has happened to Sourav Ganguly is unfair and clear politics and hatred on the part of Greg Chappell and Kiran More who are trying foolishly to settle scores over dada. Sourav Ganguly deserves a place in the Indian team in both tests and onedayers, based on past performance and on merit. Chappell does not have the exclusive right, to pick and choose, the Indian Team on his own personal whims and fancies.

The true mettle of Chappell will come against Pakistan and England.

If I were a Sourav Ganguly detractor and a Greg Chappell supporter, I would shake off my dancing shoes and pipe down. It will soon become apparent how arrogant, loud-mouthed and hollow Chappell is; a total misfit as an Indian coach.

With this six months, two seniors from different fractions within the BCCI have openly criticized Chappell over Sourav Ganguly- one was Ranbir Singh Mahendra who said what Chappell was accusing about dada was false and baseless and now Sharad Pawar calling his behavior as unfair.

Don’t be surprised if you are soon forced to write his obituary as the sacked Indian coach on mouthshut.com!!
