What is life without laughter? A life without any laughter will be a boring life. At a time, when various "saas-bahu" serials of various channels make people cry, Star One, took it upon themselves to make people laugh, laugh and just laugh by launching "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge" in June 2005. It is always easy to make people cry, but it is tougher to make people laugh and the ones who make people laugh are the real talented people. Star One, has helped identify the real talent of India by laughing a true reality show named "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge". Each winner of the Great Indian Laughter Challenge had their own style.

Sunil Pal, the eventual winner, famous for his "Bhakt jano, kaise ho saalo" joke, became famous with his character "Ratan Nura" who was a lightweight alchoholic guy and always taked about "marne-marane"(hitting and killing). Sunil Pal, was also good in his mimicry and did mimicry of those actors nobody could have imagined to do of like Irfan Khan, Naseeruddin Shah and Sunil Shetty.

Ahsaan Qureshi, the one who stood 2nd, became famous for his humorous poetry and his "mundi hilaana" and repetive speaking. Ahsaan Qureshi, used to speak the 1st line of his poems twice/thrice but his poems were good enough.

Raju Shrivastav, stood 3rd but was the funniest character of the Great Indian Laughter Challenge and he became famous for his style of folding his arms and keeping it behind his head. The film reviews done by Raju Shrivastav were humourous, espcially the Sholay one where Gabbar became a weak-sickly character and Kalia and Samba were shown as strong characters.

Naveen "Julie" Prabhakar, stood 4th and became famous for his bargirl jokes. Like Sunil Pal, Naveen Prabhakar also had good mimicry skills and imitated even female voices well for his bargirl character "Julie".

Bhagwant Maan, the great Punjabi comedian, stood 5th and was generally good enough. He used to twist the various langauages like Hindi, English and Punjabi and created his humour. Also, Bhagwant Maan being a punjabi, did excellent comedy in punjabi.

Parag Kansara, stood 6th and was fanous for his "socho" jokes. Was explosive in the very 1st episode of "The Great Indian Laugher Challenge" where he made everyone "socho" with what would have happened if the body parts got all jumbled up. Parag Kansara, however couldnt do too much after the 1st episode.

The laughter challenge, continued and in February 2006, came the sequel, a bigger and better "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge-Dwitiya". "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge 2", went even 1 step ahead and set up a new trend of India-Pakistan friendship by moving beyond borders and inviting even Pakistani contestants to perform. Just like the laughter challenge-1, "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge-2", gave us more comedians again each of which had their own style.

Khayali, a thin guy from Chandigarh, was good enough in the 1st episode and his shake-up style by shaking his body parts was humorous. The joke where he says he did modelling for the electricity department and got his photo placed on every pillar with "khatra" written below it was good.

Raj Kumar Javkar, the ventriloquist, brought about a dying art of ventriloquism(art of throwing voices) back by his character Rancho(a monkey) and in his performance, Rancho even takes it over from Raj Kumar and makes everyone laugh.

Uday Dahiya, Uday Dahiya, was also a contestant in the laughter challenge-1, but missed out there. His "Sarsarate" jokes were humorous and in the Laughet Challenge-2, he replaced "girls" with "flat" in his joke and makes everyone laugh. By calling "girls" as "flat", 2 friends can easily talk about all types of girls by calling them flats and if a 3rd person overhears them, he will not be able to understand what they are talking.

Pratap Faujdar, the Sardar, was a humble character and he didnt mind if the jokes was over him. He himself became the epicenter of jokes and made others laugh by laughing at himself. It is always easy to laugh at others, but its always tough to laugh at yourself. Pratap Faujdar, laughed at himself with ease by saying the "Sardarji" jokes.

Tushar Shah, the doctor, told jokes about married people and doctors and had a very different style from others. The joke where he told about Madhuri Dixit marrying Dr.Nene was good.

Pradeep Pallavi, was the unluckiest contestant as he particapated in both laughter challenges and created humour from classical songs by singing them in a funny way. He was unlucky both times as in GILC-1, he was in the same episode as Raju Shrivastav and this time in GILC-2, he was with Pratap Faujdar. Hoping to see him in the finals in the Laughter Challenge-3.

About our Pakistani friends,

Kashif Khan, was very quick in speaking and spoke non-stop and made eveyone laugh by his Rocket-esque style of speaking where he spoke non-stop very quickly. Kashif Khan, did one of the toughest things by counting backwards from 100-1 and that too at an amazing speed.

Wali Shaik, has acted in some Pakistani plays of Omar Sharif and was very good in his jokes, especially his joke where he talked of his "baldness" and how he became bald after he asked a barber to give him the style of Salman Khan in "Tere Naam".

Rauf Lala, also has acted in some Pakistani plays of Omar Sharif even getting a main role in some of them. With his jokes, he beat many Indian contestants and made them laugh.

Ali Hasan-Irfan Malik "jodi", Pakistans own version of "Laurel and Hardy", were humorous, however, they said jokes stolen from Omar Sharifs plays especially the one where Mute people sing, Deaf people listen, Blind people see and Leg-less people run.

Both the GILC-1 and GILC-2 have been succesful in making the people laugh and in identifying the real talents. As I said that I cant control my laughing when watching something hilarious, so I laugh for over 45 minutes out of 60 watching "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge"

The Judges -

Both Shekhar Suman and Navjot Singh Sidhu have done an excellent work as judges with Sidhu, Who is very humorous doing his excessive laughing and laughing at every small thing. Shekhar Suman, however gives good opinions about every performer in the laughter challenge by speaking encouraging words and encouring them to do well more and make more people laugh.
