Imagine a kid in our country revealing his aspirations to his parents:

Hey dad I wanna be a comedian when I grow up.

Dad’s response: What !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next day the kid would probably be attending a psychotherapy session to get this allegedly idiotic idea out of his mind. Not that daddy dear doesn’t love to laugh, its just that he would like himself and his kids safe on the other side of fence (Stage in this case).

Daddy dear would have gone as far as saying:

What !!!!!! <<A pause taken to regain senses>>

I would have been damned had singer or stage actor been your choices kiddo but comedian !!.....Nooooo Way.

Theory of relativity ..you know. Otherwise singing and stage acting are equally doomed.

Sorry for being such a hypocrite but me myself is no exception when it comes to it and so is it with most of you my dear frds.

Anyways enough of ramblings and Welcome to The Great Indian Laughter Challenge

Talent like water always finds its own way. No matter what daddy cool may do to stop it but every once in a while the kid with a funny bone will be recognized and be given his fair share of fame.

So Jai, you mean to say it is exceptional….eh?

No sir, exceptional it may not be but its pretty good for sure for following reasons:

The greatest tragedy of comedy is that it doesn’t come easy so serious efforts in this direction deserve a loud round of applause as far as I am concerned.

It is one of its kinds among the crowd of those many talent hunt shows where they are looking for Singers, Super singers and super duper singers etc.

Those of you who have tried, may know that making someone laugh needs colossal guts. No sane man can ignore a person making genuine efforts to make others laugh.

It gave national recognition to these stand up comics which they really deserved. Now daddy dear may cool his head by knowing that this could be a serious choice of profession too.

All rise ….The judges are here.

Undoubtedly Shekhar Suman was an obvious choice. The man has come a long way from being a skinny incompetent actor in Utsav to a successful anchor person and a very successful stand up comic. He has given new amplitudes to this profession so I think he is competent enough to judge newbies in his league.

Navjot Sidhu: The less said is better. Even if we leave his very witty oneliners aside, the guy has some capacity for laughing continuously for an hour.

Hello and welcome back.

Here comes our anchor for the show. She is bright, dazzling, well dressed, enthusiastic and she sure has the voice of an anchor. Though there isn’t much for her to do there yet it doesn’t hurt much to occasionally have her between us and those geniuses of laughter.

All in all it is great .We need more of this kind. To those whom it matters drop by at Star One on Friday night at 10 PM and enjoy shades of laughter. The package includes smiles, giggles, laughter and roars too.

Bravo Star One!!

Jai
