I just recently saw Grease again, for the umpteenth time. It's just as good now as it was the first time I saw it.
John Travolta gives a wonderful performance as Danny, the greaser, with a big heart. The leader of the T-Bird gang.
Olivia Newton-John also does a superb job as Sandy, the innocent, virginal, transfer student from Australia.
Danny and Sandy meet at the beach during summer vacation and fall in love, not knowing that they will meet again when summer vacation is over and they will both be attending Rydell High. And this is where the story begins.
Let me introduce you to the cast:
Danny(John Travolta), leader of the T-Bird gang. Handsome, sexy and the coolest of cool.
Kenicke(Jeff Conaway, from the show Taxi), a wannabe leader, but just not quite cool enough. Danny's best friend and a 9 on the cool scale.
Doody(Barry Pearl), not the best looking guy in the world, but a lot of fun to be around. Only about a 3 on the cool scale.
Putzie(Kelly Ward),the kid, still being shown the ropes. Just a 1 on the cool scale.
Sonny(Michael Tucci), the thinker, down to earth, maybe a 6 on the cool scale.
Rizzo(Stockard Channing), leader of the Pink Ladies(the female counterparts of the T-Birds.) Lots of fun and quite the slut, but you have to love her character.
Frenchie(Didi Conn), Beauty school dropout, occasional High school drop in.
Jan(Jamie Donnelly), not the prettiest of the bunch nor the smartest, but she's funny as all get out.
Marty(Dinah Manoff),the group sexpot, she's the one in love with love! Not quite the slut as Rizzo.
Sandy(Olivia Newton-John), the newest member, the outsider from Australia, a plain Jane.......until
Until the Pink Ladies get a hold of her and transform her.
The movie takes us through the school year, the dances, parties and problems of the typical teenager of the 50's.
The rivalry and jealousy of other (so called) gangs. Of boyfriends and girlfriends. Of possible pregnancy(One guess.........Rizzo).
Sid Caesar and Eve Arden have great ''co-starring'' rolls in the movie as the principal of Rydell High and the main teacher.
With the help of the Pink Ladies, Sandy goes from ''plain Jane'' to ''ultra sexy'' in order to keep Danny interested. Because as the plain Jane, Danny is too cool to be with her.
The music in the movie, sung by Olivia Newton-John, became chart toppers. John Travolta did some pretty good singing himself.
Director Randal Kleiser, put together a perfectly meshed ensemble cast, to make you feel like you are right there, back in the 50's and going to Rydell High School.
I don't really want to go all the way into the plot of the movie, in case there are some of you who haven't seen it yet.
But suffice to say, it is most enjoyable entertainment. Grab a bowl of popcorn and just sit back and enjoy it! I'm sure you will.
