Let me first tell you that I was eagerly waiting to watch The Martian from a very long time. You may almost call it desperate. I normally watch all my movies in Cinepolis which let me tell you is utterly magnificent. It is hands down the best theatre in my area.
Anyway since desperate times call for desperate measures, I ended up booking tickets in Gopalan. And guess what? My hopes were dashed into the hardest metaphorical wall of disappointment. Also, it didn't help that the seats were solid rock. So much for a delightful cinematic experience. Okay so the movie was simply amazing. It was perfect and it was everything I had hoped for. But Dear Gopalan Cinemas, you destroyed my cinematic experience. The screen quality was so pathetic, it was simply a horrendous screen. FYI, it was in 3D. Heres the saddest part, there were outlines of every object on the screen even with my glasses on. Way to go.
The only time it was a little clear was when the film focused on the actors faces. Without glasses, mind you. The glasses simply made the movie dull and gloomy and blotchy and pathetic. That screen was so bad that I do not have it in my power to describe in words.
I was surprised to see that they collect deposit for the 3D glasses. Mind you, I do not have a problem with this system, I have a problem with GOPALAN using this system. How dare they. How do they have the sheer audacity to take deposits for glasses that are as good as a 5-year olds play toy.The glasses were so cloudy even after vigorous wiping. The gall they have.
I do realize this is more of an angry rant than a review but I cannot help it. I vow to never step inside that mall, let alone theatre. It is a disgrace to the quality of screens across Bangalore. FYI, I paid 250 for 2 hours of continous cleaning of my glasses and deciding when to remove them to get a clearer picture. I wish to spread the word and hope you never go for a movie there. It is the worst theatre in the history of theatres. I warned you. Beware.
