Google Talk is slowly becoming one of the most popular instant Messenger. The only reason I say that is coz I feel that happening I find more people online on my Google Talk rather than on my MSN Messenger now and the simplicity and sleekness , easy to use makes it even more useful One of the advantages Google Talk has it popularity becuase of Gmail Everyone has Gmail, and if they are checking their account, they are online, and tend to find most of the people online too.
