I have been using this app for default storage and back up of all my photos for close to four years now and have found it very useful and convenient tool.
Gone are the days of the physical photo album even for marriages. I doubt these are even created or retained for posterity these days. If you have attended a wedding ceremony lately you will find all photos taken are passed around by WhatsApp and then a year down the road all these memories are promptly forgotten; this is where Google photos come in; just create an album on the app and stuff all the photos taken into an album created on the app. Send the link to all others and request them to upload the photos they have taken of the same event directly by themselves into the same album and lo and behold – you have a nice wedding album all ready which can be shared easily.
The app can also serve as your default storage place for all photos taken on your phone and the photos can then be deleted from your phone to save on phone storage capacity .On the app you can choose to archive the photos which you are not likely to use any more(especially screen shots that we keep clicking all the time) or retain it in the gallery. But be warned – searching for the photo that you have taken six months ago is not such an easy task unless you name each of the photos or have already transferred it into a designated album.
Transfer from devices to the app is a little slow even with a stable internet connection but is automatic whenever the app is in use and Wi-Fi network is in use. About storage capacity; this is part of the total Google storage capacity which is 15GB of free uploads but includes Google drive, Google photos and Gmail. It therefore makes sense to purchase additional storage from Google and then you don’t have to bother about file size at all .(presently about Rs 140 /month for an extra 100 GB)
Album sharing is a breeze and this is the mean weapon should I say of this app; the power to create and share albums across devices .
All in all, a simple useful photo storage and sharing app. I have seen several reviews where they have mentioned bugs in the program /app but I have never experienced any, maybe the latest version has taken care of all these glitches.
