The concept and script of Good Boy Bad Boy is extremely amateur, which makes the film a big disappointment. The concept seems just thrown in together without any thought and the script lacks any creativity or rational. The film has been directed by Ashwini Chaudhary, but even his execution of such crass material is unable to lift the film any higher. The screenplay is loud, over the top and senseless. The film is based on the campus lives of two boys, one good and one bad. Due to a sheer case of bad luck, their identity cards get swapped in college and they are each thrown into the other’s life. The bad boy is the clichéd loafer who bunks class, plays pranks on his mates and fools around with all the girls. The good boy is the stereotype sweet boy who only has eyes for his books and no time for fun or love. In fact the sequences that unfold have the opposite reaction on the audiences, the funny scenes make you cringe, the emotional drama does not evoke any sympathy and the song and dance is a total waste. On the whole the film has a weak script, dowdy screenplay and below satisfactory execution.

The film belongs to the romantic/comedy genre, it has been produced by Subhash Ghai and the story has been written and directed by Ashwini Chaudhary. The film stars Emraan Hashmi as Raju Malhotra, Tushaar Kapoor as Rajan Malhotra, Isha Sharwani as Rashmi, Tanushree Dutta as Dinky, Paresh Rawal etc. The music has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya.

Raju Malhotra(Emraan) is the bad boy of the college, he is naughty, a prankster and flirtatious. He never concentrates on his studies and barely manages to pass the class. On the hand Rajan(Tushaar) is the good boy of the college, studious, helpful, and uninterested in girls and always glued to his books. Topping in his exams is a must and gaining knowledge is equally important. The principal of the college decides to group students in a class based on their aptitude, unfortunately a peon mixes the identity cards of both Raju and Rajan as they both have R. Malhotra on them. Due to this mix up, Raju the bad boy ends up with all the studious students and Rajan ends up with all the duffers.

However Raju and Rajan decide to stay in their respective classes although they don’t fit in simply because they fall head over heels for their girls. Raju falls for the studious Rashmi(Isha) and Rajan falls for the ditzy Dinky(Tanushree). They also get to know each other with time and they try to make the best of their situations.

One of the major flaws of the film is the amateur story and script of the film; it rests on a weak plot and screenplay too. With such a weak foundation itself the rest of the film is bound to be equally hackneyed. The script lacks creativity, logic or finesse. The execution too does not work and also looks tacky. The look and style of the film is garish and over the top. The actors too try too hard to look the part of college students and ultimately end up looking like caricatures instead. Humour comes across as nonsensical, emotional sequences don’t touch a chord and drama is far from captivating.

Cinematography by Manoj Soni is extremely poor and the campus look comes across as trying too hard and archaic. Music by Himesh is sub standard and there is not even one memorable track. Dialogues are crass and performances too are dreary. Tushaar Kapoor as the good boy sleep walks through his role as he has done this good boy act too many times and he has nothing new to offer. Emraan too has done the bad boy act too many times, but he still doesn’t get it right, his look and style are over the top and his acting is below satisfactory. Isha Sharwani is expressionless and her acting too is the same, Tanushree Dutta’s clothes and look is too loud and her acting needs a lot of work. Talented actors like Paresh Rawal and Sushmita Mukherjee too are wasted in the film.

Good Boy Bad Boy is a film that is outdated in script, style and plot. The film is a big disappointment and is not likely to work at the box-office.
