Golmaal returned. And nobody objected.

I liked the sea view, beach resorts, yachts, coconut trees, cocoa, nuts, theatre screen, 24 degree AC, clean washrooms, tissue papers, enough leg space, 45 degree slanting seats, 180 degree view, Saturday night party audience and quiet exit. Safe parking and free red lights at night. Did I miss anything?

How can I? But I would certainly like to bring to the notice of the readers; there was a 3-hour of constant bombardment of mindless comedy at high volume which constantly tried to interrupt my peaceful outing and attempt to sleep. Yes. Golmaal Returned. And my friend owes an explanation for compelling me to go for the movie. I will square things with her later but for now; I need to tell my people here in Mouthshut that contemporary Indian comedy is back to “square one”.

Not an inch ahead but certainly redundant, absence of creativity, presence of mindlessness.

Its easy to make such films, just get few characters who look funny, dress funny, talk funny. And here you have a perfect 35mm smile. Oops! I forgot the song. “thaan thaan karke”…my interpretation is that they want to shoot the audience. How? Well, when a gun shoots bullets, whats the sound….right. “thain thain” Poor joke I know. Can’t help it. I felt a victim so I will have to connect it somewhere.

Folks.Let us ask ourselves. What kind of comedy we want to see. Something that we go home with and smile before sleep, or just experience the level of fresh butter in the pop corns during intermission?

I will tell you something.

On a large canvas there are just two types of comedies:-

*1. We laugh on characters,

  1. We laugh on actors.

Latter is the case we see in most of Indian comedies. The directors try their best to bring out the stupidity in actors, give them, an accent, mental disorder, speech disorder, listening disorder, body odour, body functional disorder, sexual orientation disorder (I will explain this point later in the review).

All right. Let us discuss the less interesting part. The movie. It opens with same patent golmaal song, but a remixed version. Similar faces.  Note: This time, its Sreyas Talpade replacing Sharman Joshi who is known to have opened his mouth wide open and asking for whooping 1 crore for the movie…*(my goodness! Which blockbuster he was in?? But we must appreciate the confidence level.) *“wink”

Parking the plot

Lemme give a quick account of the plot and move on. Golmaal family, Kareena wifing Devgan, sistering Tushar and bhabhing Amrita Arora, is a “shaqqi” biwi coz she admits she is inspired by Balaji Telefilms.* (Ekta must have sponsored the movie because she gets fine leverage) which is a part of the Golmaal comedy. Arshad Warsi loves Arora and is a police officer. (He is the major disappointment, may be coz we expect a lot out of him.)* With his non-impressive character, even the funny bones will hide in shame and ask for mercy.  Now everyone is connected with a fishery export company and an illogical murder case of Apple Singh, colleague of Devgan.

This is on the professional comedy front and on the personal comedy side, everyone is searching for Celina Jaitley whom Devgan rescued from “mawallis” and spent a night without touching her but Kareena feels otherwise.  Sreyas is dragged in the story to solve Devgans problem and he also boyfriends Celina.

That’s it folks. Now you know the story.

Lethal comedy weapons used

So you like flying cars, amended phrases like “lote lote se hi saagar bharta hai”, sticker tattoos, snake fighter (Hirjee), sexual jokes, homosexuals (yes once again clichéd portrayal, one grow sick of this), cross dressers *(alas! once again) *and delayed ending?

Everyone is loud in the movie, exaggerated melodrama (now wonder what would be like when melodrama itself is exaggerated), poor direction (I don’t remember the director. It hardly matters), poor music and wealthy producer.

Prophecy*

And finally, after the “comedy of horrors”, the real terror – Golmaal will re-return. The movie ends with this promise and publicity.

PS: I never wanted to open my reviews section with such nonsense. Though having a choice of not writing on this movie, I was even more encouraged after reading the review of the day…”best comedy ever”. Guess that was not a prank itself.

Do drop by for my next reviews. They won’t be as mindless as this one is.

Thanks
