I enrolled myself to Gold Gym DLF Phase-3 Gurgaon branch on August 16, 2011. I paid Rs. 26, 500/- for a yearly plan. I could not utilize the gym services completely due to sudden branch’s closure in December 2011 itself. I used gym’s services for a month and after that the gym was closed for two weeks on the pretext that there were certain issues with the AC and it needed repairs. I also received a text message from Gold Gym that the fees will be adjusted for the time the center was closed for AC repair.
After that I did not went to Gym for nearly 2 months due to health and personal issues and when I reached Gym in December, every time I visited the gym, I found the center to be closed. I inquired further and my investigation lead me to the fact that they have closed down all your operations at the said location and that too midterm.
I wasted no time in contacting Gold Gym customer care center who confirmed that the gym is no more a part of Gold Gym. Also the employees stated that the case in the court and that no representative of the other party attends the court proceedings.
I requested through numerous emails for refund but there was no apt response. I paid annual fee only on the basis of reputation of Gold Gym and they behaved like they are having no responsibility.
Then I contacted Akosha, an online forum to help the consumers and pehredaar, a consumer helping show on CNBC Aawaz. Pehredaar did not respond to my emails like they just help against smaller issues like mobile phones where they can find solution through customer care.
I took paid services of Akosha and they tried to contact Gold Gym and after several attempts they got below response
"As you know gold gym is not associated with the gym anymore. The relationship between them ended in January 2011. Also you have not paid money to Gold Gym. You paid it to the gym owner. Before 2011, Gold Gym used to look at the processes, branding and marketing of the company. Once their relationship is broken, they have also given public notices informing users that are not co-related to the gym any more,
Now if you want something then you need to file a complaint against the gym owner"
All of the above they said is false as earlier when I talked with them after Gym closure they said they are in talk with Gym owner. Now they are not denying completely. I talked to gold gym customer care in august 2011 before taking membership and they only provided me the Gurgaon gym number.
They are not even ready to provide the details of the owner of Gurgaon Gym. I thought about complaining in Consumer court but every one suggested me that it will take a long time and effort to get any result so I dropped the idea. But I want to let everyone know that please try to avoid such a shameless Gym as they are just CHEATER. They will keep monthly fee so high that people are forced to take longer memberships and if Gym owner runs away then there is no one to listen to you. I have all the receipts and emails with me if any one is not convinced. If any one knows a way to teach them a lesson please let me know.
