Having moved to Goa and judging Godrej's reputation and the trust my family has always had in a Godrej product, we went ahead and bought Godrej furniture from CMM, Merces(Goa). I was otherwise satisfied with the furniture till one day our bed, a Godrej Zurina wooden bed nearly collapsed. We did not think much of it then but in a week's time when we were scheduled to shift house, we had the bed dismantled and found that two planks of wood inside the bed had completely rotten away. Yes, in one year's time, without being exposed to bad weather, etc. I had no idea about it in the one year that I had used the bed, simply because it is not commonplace to open the bed every other day to check for how well the wood is doing, is it? Also, from day one, we were unable to use the drawers under the bed because the whole bed has to be lifted to open one drawer, and it is not the job of one person. So much for wanting storage space with the bed!
We called the showroom that had sold us the bed(Bill No. 600381, CMM Arena, Renowadi, Merces, Goa) for as much as Rs. 18, 490, and asked for a repair. The lady in charge there, one Miss Judy Rego refused to do anything about it because they do not keep Godrej products any more. I called Godrej customer care and they asked for a hefty amount to be charged if the mechanic so much as steps into my house. Eventually I had to get a private mechanic to repair the plank and replace it with another piece of wood. Now the bed is making strange noises, as if some of its metal parts are coming undone each time I even sit on the bed. I have not opened up the bed yet, because I really don't know what to expect from it now.
The dressing unit we got was also a Zurina, and the mirror pasting is coming undone. The computer table we bought has become wobbly, and the plank for keeping the keyboard comes out on a frequent basis. I have not abused any of my furniture so it cannot be my fault that this is happening. On complaining to Godrej, I was just sent a couple of numbers where I had to lodge a complaint and they would try to send a mechanic, at a price of course.
I am thoroughly disgusted at the sub-standard product Godrej sold me, and not in a position to sell the bed off by weight and get a new one from elsewhere. A street side carpenter would do a much better job. I am ashamed of the fact that I trusted the Godrej brandname so much and will recommend everyone I know to not purchase any furniture from Godrej Interio in the future, except the sturdy storwels.
