The Godfather By Mario Puzo was gifted to me by my brother.
Once you open the book and start reading, it's almost impossible to stop until you reach the end.
The Godfather is the story of an ordinary person who becomes the Godfather because of circumstances and the force of his personality.
I don't want to give away the story so I'll list the three reasons why you must read this book.
Great story, wonderful setting and unforgettable characters. Even the minor characters are fully sketched out and seem real.
Exceptional dialogue. Here are a couple:
"I will make him an offer he can't refuse."
"A lawyer with a briefcase can steal more than a thousand men with guns."
- Multiple points of view: The story is of the Godfather but it is told from the point of view of most of the other characters as well including Michael Corleone(the Godfather's third son), Johny Fontane(film star), Kay(Michal's wife) and many others.
In this book, Mario Puzo presents the story of Don Corleone sympathetically but without glorifying crime or the Mafia.
And if you watched the movie, the book is a hundred times better.
Highly recommended.
