Hello Folks,
This book is in my list of Coolest ones...I was very much impressed by the sagacious management of the resources (including all people, money, power) done by the protagonist of the book Vito Caroline.
I have seen a movie called 'Life is Beautiful' and till date I feel the lead character played in that movie is the one who I always look forward to when I am down.
But now after reading this book I feel that Vito Carolene is the one who stands out for courage and rather more for his smartness and thoughtfulness.
It’s not any other common Gang War drama in which is quite banal. I have read the Last Don of Mario puzo but it’s in the so-called banal mafia story line.
Vito Carolene is the man who has got power, money and man but the best part is how calmly he manages all.
The story contains all sex, crime, passion, treachery , Power and Politics as part of any other Mafia story. You can also get to know why this is called the pinnacle of all Mafia books. And why the movies made on this have remained classics till date..
Story Line
Vito Carolene - God Father is a man whose father got killed in Mafia war, then he had to run for his life as he was searched by all other mafias too kill him and his family. This man reached USA and slowly and steadily built his empire of power, crime and money.
He is considered to be the father of Modern Mafias. Calm and cool as ever. He has three sons.
Michael Carolene- A pretty cool guy who is not interested in the work of his father as its all illegal and bad if seen from the eyes of a common man. He is a soldier by profession and the reason for doing this job is his dislike for all his fathers work.
Fredo Carolene He is a kind of son who every Italian would ask god for. He is a humble, dutiful and loyal person to his father and family.
Santonio Carolene He is the one who gets killed in the bloody mafia war between Vito carolene and turk named sollozo who wants to do drug business which Vito carolene is not ready to support.
Conie Carolene She gets married to carlo rizzi.
In all this bloody war Don carolene becomes injured and this is the time when Michael takes the lead and performs his fathers duties in the most judgmental and thoughtful way as his father does it.
It also includes various other characters such as tom hage, luca, tessio, clemenza , nino valentino, Johny fontane ,adams family and so forth. Its a story of the mafia but single handedly led by a man of awesome style.
My Learning
So many times in life we meet lots of people who have achieved a lot in life and when you just see them from distance you never come to know this.
Humble nature and calm personality without any arrogance of a person makes him rather than just achieving glory.
When you read the maturity and thoughtfulness of characters like this in books you come to know why its not always a true fact that being cool and calm is the success mantra of greatest achievers rather than being bubbly and over enthusiastic all the time.
That’s what is my learning from this legendary character called GODFATHER.
Conclusion
Kudos to Don Carolene and to Mario puzo for creating such a legendary character in this literary world.
Its a great read folks go on. I guess this is 28th review on MS as its a pretty old but still has remained best seller and classic of all time in the minds of readers.
