Godfather was the first proper novel that I read...I was a very young reader at that time, and I suggest this is one book that new readers who wish to get hooked to this good habit, should start reading. I borrowed this book from my dad, and read it.
The book is filled with 'words of wisdom' or rather 'quotes of wisdom'. Personally, if someday I owned a library or a bookstore, I would'nt place this book in the 'Fiction' section but rather in 'Leadership' or 'Management' section.
Phrases like...'Going under the mattress', or 'Days of the week', or the moments when the Don handles 'Luca'...are beyond excellence. Mario Puzo rolled out a management guru. Though his other books revolved around the same theory, and I have read almost all of them, none of them gripped me the way, 'the Godfather' did.
Mario Puzo has an emotional touch to his writing. The writing is simple, reader-gripping...his narration skills are very good. I would recommend this book heavily to anyone, not from the perspective of getting a view of the mob scene, but rather from the leadership skills and management skills.
The other recommended book from the same author would be 'The Sicilian'.
