God on a Harley - Joan Brady.

Hi, all. Before starting on the review itself, let me tell you why I chose to write on this book, and trust me, when I started searching through the list of books we could write a review on, I was so happy to find my favorite one.

Well, this is the first time am writing and am immensely delighted because am writing on a book, which by far has been the best book I have ever read. I have read a lot of management and spiritually oriented books: some good, some bad (to name a few authors, Dale Carnegie, Stephen R. Covey, and spiritual ones --> Conversations with God by Neale Donald Walsch) but none of them have touched me so deeply as this one. It gave me peace of mind, happiness, and taught me how to be content with myself.

Basically this book is about a woman named Christine Moore who has had a number of failed relationships, is lonely, forlorn, heartbroken, has low self-esteem and tries to forget her troubles by working, which again she hates. What is striking about this book is most of us can relate to it in one way or the other. Every one of us at one point or the other would have gone through these stages and behaved the way Christine has.

At a point in her life when she has completely lost trust in guys and believes has washed her hands off them, there appears this real handsome hunk on a Harley Davidson (..I think that is really cool) who calls himself, Joe, to get her out of this mess. Initially she is very speculative and sarcastic when this guy tells her that he is the Almighty, the Higher Power, etc., but slowly learns to believe in Him. Interesting thing about the author is she does not PREACH but keeps it very light and funny (unlike other books, which tell you what to do and what not to..) and keeps you hooked and makes you really delve deeper into your inner self and ask what you want and where you want to go in your life. Spirituality with a mix of humor - too good a combination.

For me, this is what God is, and not somebody who is a stickler for rules and passes judgment. Joe gives her a set of six commandments, something like in the Bible, and helps her to learn and practice every one of them. They go something like this -- First, not to build walls and transcend them; live in the moment, for each one is precious and not to waste them (love this the MOST.. ); love yourself for what you are and be proud of that and take care of yourself; drop your ego, be true to yourself(this one too...) ; nothing is impossible and you do not need anyone else to be happy and successful -- you can be happy by yourself; and lastly, it is good to GIVE but equally important is to know your needs and fulfill them (TAKE).

This particular one would make a lot of sense to women than men...... especially to most of our Indian woman who always put others before self, married with kids and juggling with their careers and being a wife, a mother, and a home maker or stay-at-home moms. This book offers a lot more than this, so read and enjoy J!!!

When you look at the cover of the book, you might think it is only for those who have had a broken heart. I guess that is a bit misleading, something which I did not like about the book. It is for all those who want to be themselves and be happy with that and explore their hidden talents... know what more they are capable of.... instead of just describing themselves by their work (which sadly most of us do...) and lastly being happy :-)

There is a lot you can take away from this book if you read with an open mind and have a willingness to change for the better. Happy reading... and please give me your honest opinion, it matters to me!!!
