HI!, just back from a road trip from Goa. Took my 7 year old Indica and it did real well. We took the route via Pune. It took me exactly 12 hours from Sakinaka in Mumbai to a place 8km south of Margao. At no time did we exceed110km per hour and took a total 60 minute break,

The drive was fanatastic. The total distance for me was 629 kms. The first 428 KM is great. The roads are like butter and you just dont get tired of driving.

Take the Mumbai Pune expressway and go straight without any unnatural lefts of rights (NH4). Head towards Satara / Kholapur to Nipanni. After Nipani you will get a small and easy GHAT and soon after the ghat you will see Hotel Kaveri on your right. This is where the first 428km ends. You have to take a right turn at Hotel Kaveri. You will now move from the nice 2 lane fantastic road that you enjoy from the start to the single lane road. This is like a typical village road. From here it is a another 110km to Sawantwadi. DONT MISS THIS RIGHT!!! if not you will go straight to BELGAUM.

You will pass the villages of Uttur and Ajra on the way and also cross the beautiful Amboli Ghat. The aim is to get to Sawantwadi, so if you feel a bit lost, just ask for Sawantwadi. This 110km was a bit tiring and the roads had a few bad patches (much better than the potholded roads in some of or cities).

At 531KM, we were at Sawantwadi. At Sawantwadi, just follow the directions to Panjim, you cannot get lost. You will keep on a straight road with natural curves till you reach a T. Take a left at this T if you are headed for Calangute, Baga, Candolim, Panjim, Vasco. Margao, Colva. Take a right for Mapusa. The roads have good directions now so you should be OK.

Be sure to keep in mind some points on the road so that it helps on your return as it is the same way.

There are lots of Tolls (8 is what I counted), so keep some change.

There is also a Macdonalds approx 385 KM from Mumbai. You will see the Big M. It is on the opposite side of the road on your way to Goa.

Enjoy the drive to Goa and drive safely preferably in daylight!

Cheers, Andy
