Go, go , GO ORIENT! Yes, there's yet another eating joint offering primarily CHINESE (??) food to us 'Chindian' or 'Punjabi-Chinese' loving Delhites whose idea of Chinese is Fried Rice or Noodles with spicy manchurian or chilli(y) chicken! If I had gone to GO ORIENT with the notion of having real, perfect, subtly bland chinese food with white wine, I would have been dissappointed. But I did not, so I was not! I was not at TEA HOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON or at TAIPAN (my favourite), I was at the PVR Sonia Cinema Complex at Vikaspuri in West Delhi, in small 50 cover eatery opposite ARCHIES, in the complex itself, GO ORIENT! The menu is plastered on the glass wall next to the entrance itself, so you can decide what you like before going inside. Once inside, the first thing that hits you is the Live Music! There is one person who is playing the keyboard at the back. The music is nice, a bit LOUD though. But definately MUCH better then BERCOS at Janakpuri District Center nearby. The ambience here is very nice, the settings and the surroundings nice too.
The music, if a bit softer, could easily add to the soothing environs. The beautiful lighted candle also helps. But what really surprised me was the variety of food offered at prices that do not pinch your pocket. Though the name is GO ORIENT, they also serve full Indian Mughlai course under a separate section on their menu card, GO INDUS. Thai food is also served here, although I did not dare try it! See I am not going to write much about the favourite dishes or the most popular dishes as everybody has their own preferences and unique tastes. Me and my wife primarily went in to try out the Chicken Steam Dimsums (MOMOs). At Rs. 67+taxes per serving they were a tad more expensive than those available freely outside the complex just opposite the PVR box office. We are still debating amongst ourselves whether it was worth it or not! One word of caution here.... Try the CHILLI(Y) CHICKEN with sesame seeds only if you want to bring tears to your eyes! It certainly did to mine. The service is excellent. The waiters could actually converse in English! To sum it up.....you must GO ORIENT at least once! Oh by the way, last heard, they now have a liquor license now. The prices are really down to earth. Yipee!
