A ceiling based on attitudinal or organizational bias in the work force that prevents minorities and women from advancing at their work place in the organization.
This ceiling is a intangible barrier and is a perception being held by women and minorities working in the organizations.
Factors preventing women from making a mark in corporate world
there are many a reason for glass ceiling to persist, they are as follows:
a)biased nature of corporate men towards their women counterpart in an organization.
b)lack of management level education in the part of the women which ultimately nagging them towards glass ceiling.
c)social and family responsibility of women are deterring her to make a mark in the corporate world.
d)confinement of women to narrower range of occupation(horizontal segregation)
and to lower grade of work(vertical segregation)
e)sex discrimination at the work place from lower level of management to higher level.
f)lack of any anti discrimination law to protect the corporate women from promotion.
g)domination of management level by men who pay less attention to women counterpart.

They are few women like carly fiorina who have managed to reach the top most position in corporate America by their sheer hardwork and talent who believe that there exists no glass ceiling may be because they might have never faced any serious discrimination in their work life.On the contrary, inspite of the massive entry of women in the workplace and the increasing numbers of women in mid-level managerial positions, top level position remain as elusive to women today as they were more than a decade ago.
Working in a world dominated by male decision-makers and their established practices, women encounter a variety of barriers impeding their surge to the top of their careers.
