I should start out by saying that Gigli was an incredibly disappointing movie. The film consisted of Ben Affleck, horrible acting, vulgar dialogues and a ridiculous plot. I was under the impression that Jennifer Lopez would be the saving grace here but she wasn’t at all. In fact, Affleck and Lopez together didn’t seem to complement each other at all in terms of bringing out their acting skills. About the movie now…Ben Affleck (Larry Gigli) is supposed to be this hardcore thug who goes around making money by scaring/bullying people. The guy he works for gives him an important job that cannot be messed (generally what Gigli ends up doing) up at any cost. Jennifer Lopez is sent in to keep an eye on Affleck and make sure that things go smoothly. The two of them live together with the retarded guy they’re supposed to keep hostage for a couple of days. Gigli obviously finds Lopez “hot” but in the midst of making a move on her, discovers that she’s a lesbian. The movie then has tons and tons of scenes where its either Affleck trying to turn Lopez into a heterosexual or her trying to convince him about how being with a woman is much better. Most of the movie revolves around showing Ben Affleck attracted to Lopez while she’s amusing herself by flirting with him.

I think there was an attempt to create some chemistry between the two actors, but every time the two got close there would be some mention of how Lopez preferred women and spoil the ‘sparks’ flying. To break away from all this…there are bits about the kidnapped guy which range from him annoying the hell out of Ben Affleck to him overcoming his fear of girls.

For some reason this movie seemed to attract a lot of elderly people. With the kind of language being used…that was surprising. I didn’t think there was any new cinematography in the movie in terms of camera angles, different shots, etc. The background music was pretty insignificant as well. It seemed like the success of the film was banking upon Lopez and Affleck who churned out a mediocre performance. Really BIG fans of the couple or people who’re absolutely crazy about either of the actors can go watch the movie, I suppose. I wouldn’t recommend it otherwise.
