Her name was Gia, and she didn't live very long.

“You know what I think? I think there's a reason for everything. And I think that there's a plan for everyone. And I think that God has a big plan for me. Just not in this life.”

Said Gia Maria Carangi, who shot out of Philadelphia to enter the world of Glamour n Fashion, be a Super-Model at the tender age of 17 , was wrung out by heroin and one of the first American women to die of complications of AIDS at age of 26.

This is the tragic story of Gia (Angelina Jolie) , the 1980s super model whose public image of beauty, boldness and confidence concealed a private life of insecurity and broken relations.

This story would be different for different people :

-- Journey of Super-Model Gia which well describes her success and then fall

-- Real Life Touching Lesbian Love story

-- Destroying effects of Drug abuse

-- Emotional story of a little girl who spent all her life waiting love and affection that could fill up abyss created by mom’s departure

For me, it is a journey of a girl who could not handle success , fame at early age , missed parental support, protection and care, got swayed by wild lifestyles and finally died of aids.

It is an HBO Original Movie, shot like a documentary, that wonderfully describes life of a model : her struggle, wildness, fame, success in a candid way that makes us think, Life is not easy as it looks to be. It really is a struggle trying to look perfect, stay thin. Expectations are so high , Struggle is so killing and the loneliness at the end is terrible. You feel all love you, but it’s not you but your body and face they are loving. This realization is painful and needs courage to handle. It is very easy to get swayed by drugs at wild parties but it requires control and confidence to say no to it.

Sometimes I think she was a different person to everybody, Sometimes I knew who she was, sometimes, I didn't. Anybody who tries to tell you exactly who she was, they didn't know her at all.

Said Linda , Gia’s Love interest (Elizabeth Mitchell). I have never seen such beautiful and warm lesbian relationship narrated so passionately and convincingly.

Angelina Jolie lives life of Gina. She recreates her aura and her sufferings too. Jolie's performance as a super model, a drug-addict, patient attending group therapies and then dying of AIDS is intense and moving, still sometimes difficult to watch. Her make over as next door kid to Super Model and then to Drug-Aids Struck normal Girl , leaving normal lifestyle is neatly managed and Jolie makes us believe everything she does.

Jolie's (Gia) scenes with Mitchell ( Linda ) are the best in the film, and their chemistry together is excellent. From Gia requesting Linda to stay while standing naked in front of an elevator full of people, to Linda's ultimatum that Gia must choose between the drugs or their relationship, their scenes are alternately playful, intense, touching , and painful.

Joile’s love for her mom (Mercedes Ruehl ) are so natural , but her mom who keeps her away is sometimes really unconvincing. Probably that only character needed to be sketched more keenly. But anyhow , it doesn’t restrict or falter the flow.

Joseph Carangi ( Gia’s Father ): No matter how screwed up our lives may be, we gotta take care of our children.

Girl at Group Therapy to Gia : Wait a minute. What am I supposed to feel? Sorry for you because you made ten thousand a minute doing f nothing? ''Oh it was so hard, so terrible, they treated me so bad.'' Listen girl, you had a free ride. And you f' blew it. And me? I'm some kid from Ohio, reading fashion magazines, looking at your picture and thinking I'm supposed to look like that. And going f crazy because I don't. Because nobody told me it was a lie. Because the magazine doesn't come with a label that says, ''Caution: This is a lie. Nobody looks like this.'' Not even you.

Note :

This movie is not meant for kids. It contains nudity, harsh language ( I know it’s common nowadays ) and sexual scenes.

While the first half of the film is fascinating and unpredictable, the second half, which focuses on Gia's fall, is as predictable but depressing.

At the end, we just feel to close our eyes to harsh reality :

Money , Fame and Success , can’t buy Happiness
