I am an ardent fan of Surya may be because I like Sivakumar very much and the loyalty continues for Surya also ,I do not knowwhy. So when I decided to watch a tamil movie which I rarely get time to, the first one I watched was Gajini for the sake of Surya and Asin. The movie had many flaws but still it was worthwatching. For example 99.99% of Tamil nadu knew that Surya was Sanjay Ramasamy but Asin did not have a clue of it though she was supposed to be educated, had a cell phone herself etc etc.
When Asin was hiding and the phone rang she could have just spoke to Surya and escaped from there or when she knew that some people were hiding in her own flat she could have put the phone on vibration mode and she could herself have called Surya. Why so many loopholes I do not understand? These directors think that only fools watch the movie and cheat us like anything as directors of TV serials do. (In serials the characters talk the same dialogue several times just to while away the time) And when Surya was fighting in the climax in the womens' hostel nobody called the police My God it was disgusting! Surya gave a mindblowing performance though Asin was overacting at some scenes. But she can be forgiven because of her innocent looks.
Music was excellent and Surya's dancing was superb (in oru malai)
May be on second thoughts if we compare with the movies that are churned out recently like thirupatchi, thirupathi, mazaa etc I think atleast the movie looked fresh and the direction can be compared to hollywood movies. Maybe my expectations on Surya and Asin were too much.
The dances were very good though the first dance (Asin intro) could have been avoided.
