Being a die-hard fan of Surya, I wish to write my first review on 'The Best Movie' for Surya, Ghajini. Surya's performance is as wonderful as before but in this movie its extraordinary. Some says he shows the Shades of Kamal, but I feel he deserves a place where no-one ever touched. He has his own style and acting in him. His dedication and hard work will really make him different among the current trend-setters.

Ghajini's story in short. It revolves around Sanjay Ramasamy (Surya), a successful entrepreneur who falls in love with Asin. Circumstances result in Asin exposing a corrupt bigwig. The villain kills Asin and the injured Surya recovers only to be a victim of short term memory loss. His condition is such that he cannot remember anything beyond a span of 15 minutes. He seeks revenge for his love's death and given his mental condition, he goes about using a Polaroid camera to take pictures and uses hand written notes and tattoos to remember details about people. Nayanthara plays the role of a medical student who unravels the mystery behind the killings and thereby gets involved in the tussle between the hero and the villain.

The movie is obviously a take off from the Hollywood thriller ''Memento''. But the only common things between the English movie and Ghajini are the basic plot and the mental condition of the hero. The movie is named Ghajini, after the mughal king Ghajini. He invaded india 17 times and only on the 17th time he tasted success. Similarly our hero attempts to kill the villain so many times and at last he tastes success. So he is determined in his motive, even though he fails so many times, still he doesn't give up and at last he achieves SUCCESS. The screenplay and treatment are quite original for which the director deserves special mention. Director Murugadoss after an impressive show with ''Ramanaa'' has come up with an engrossing thriller. But he could have done away with the unnecessary item number 'X-machi', some extended post-murder scenes and the unnecessary villain double-act and the illogical climax. Rajasekhar's camera work delivers what's needed for a movie of this sort. He portrays the rich and handsome Sanjay as well as the Tough and Hard Sanjay in a completely different chart. Harris Jayaraj's music is good but the choreography is a bit of a let down. Editor Antony is worth mentioning, for the song, 'suttum villi' and also for the action scenes.

About the excellent acting of Surya. The actor has established himself as a notable performer capable of carrying an entire movie on his shoulders. His well-toned physique, facial expressions and body language all suit to the character. A rich business man, a lover boy and a short-term memory loss patient - Surya is absolutely convincing in all the roles. He is looking handsome and his body language differs a lot from the previous movies (the way he stands, looks, moves, smiles etc.,). Asin looks chirpy and does her part well. The villain looks really ominous. Nayanthara is ok for the story, but her character is not so moulded.

Go for Ghajini for an innovative screenplay, Surya's action packed performance and sweet romance. Ghajini definitely deserves applaud and attention for the hard work and sincere efforts behind the scenes.

One comment for those who compares this movie with the Hollywood and worry about it saying that, it doesnt stands to expectation: For the tamil audience who demands lot of masalas and songs, this thriller promises the unusual blend of action and romance. A honest try is worth-praising.
