My first impression on seeing the trailer was that it was a comedy movie. But the movie delved into some serious topics There are 3 generations in this movie. The grandmother(Georgia) played by Jane Fonda, the mother played by Felicity Huffman(Lillly) and the daughter(Rachel) played by Lindsay Lohan Relations have always been tense between Georgia & Lilly. The same was true between Lilly & Rachel.
Rachel is a brat who is banished to spend the summer at her grandma's place. Reason being she's being drinking, smoking etc. Her grandmother has a reputation of being a strict woman who has very rigid rules. She is due to stay there until she heads off to college in fall The moment Rachel lands there, she is put on a job by her grandmother. She is given the job of a receptionist at a veterninary doctor's( Simon) place who also happens to treat humans. Her friend out there is Harlan, a local guy.
Rachel tries to seduce both Harlan & Simon who is old enough to be her father. During the course of a discussion, Rachel mentions that her stepfather has been having sex with her since she was 12. This news gets to Georgia & Lilly and everybody is shocked. Lilly confrants her husband and he outrightly denies it. Rachel also says that she was lying just to get even with her mom and stepfather. Towards the end, the truth unfolds and grandmother, mother and daugther become really close. In terms of acting, Jane Fonda is the best.
Whether it is making sure her granddaughter follows the rules or buying alchohol for her daughter she plays it convincingly Rachel Ray plays the overtly sexual brat very well. Her clothes suggest her character. She also handles the emotional part pretty well. Felicity Huffman enacts well as the the person who does not know whom to believe, her husband or her daugther. She carries off the drunk scenes very well. The movie actually delves on a serious topic with lots of comedy. However the comedy at times takes us away from the central theme of the movie.
