Situated on the ground floor of the Marine Plaza hotel, Geoffrey's can be labelled as the most hyped pub in town. You wonder why??? Me too…….....
It happened to be a soaking experience at a recent raindance, that made me convince myself that Apnaguide needed yet another review to notify all you readers to think before you leap into Geoffreys.
Enter, Geoffrey's, and you wonder why the pub has that ‘Englisied’ tag attached to it’. The long sitting stools, are more queer than the tables. The entire bar is a circle in the middle of the pub, ditto like Cyclone, as spirits like Teachers, Bacardi etc. are stacked neatly.
A few firangs, along with the usual Indians trying to bum them are scattered around the bar, and just as unusual as it sounds, Herring Fox Hunting Scenes paintings are splattered on every inch on the wall. You wonder what the parallel is of having paintings in a pub. One thing you must note are that the waiters either are trying to bum you, or they cant understand their mother-tongue.
You ask for a small liquor, and they bring you a large. Even if you are not a regular at sizes, their sizes are the same. Result – You end up paying for the large.
With 3 beers, a few paneer and chicken tikkas with a dash of a ‘large’ liquor and a limca, your bill can exceed 1000 bucks. If you looking out for a quiet day after a hard days work, Geoffrey's is the best, the music is so low that you cant hear nothing except the other pubbers exchanging unpleasantries over their drink.
Alternate option – Instead of sitting in this ’Englisied’ pub, try Marine drive, just bang opposite.
Atleast the hot peanuts you buy wont be that expensive.
