Movie Review: Gentleman. Review on Gentleman Movie

Movies like music, don't need language to be appreciated. While selecting a Kannada movie like Gentleman(dubbed movie title) hubby and me were a little apprehensive for viewing an alien language with no subtitles. We still gave it a shot, as the storyline developed and we discovered that although Kannada, the movie was super interesting. We tried to follow the lingo through the mere expressions of the actors, giving us ample reason to continue viewing it.

The movie revolves around the central character, Bharath(played by Prajwal Devaraj) who suffers from a strange sleep disorder; the Sleeping Beauty Syndrome, propelling him to sleep at length; allowing him to remain awake for only about 5 hours a day.

Eerily, the guy has no memory of the events that partake while he is in this mode. Parallel to the main plot are 2 stories that swiftly weave themselves in the forthcoming scenes. A doctor who kidnaps young girls to steal the female ovum only to bring in profit to his IVF center and the good Samaritan psychologist, Tapaswini(played by Nishvika Naidu) who falls in for our sleepy head hero. What follows is the tale of how Bharath’s elder brother and sister in law are killed in an accident forcing him to take care of his 7 year old niece. Her disappearance drags him to the IVF’s den; a story that is carefully woven with his frequent and mindful interactions with a police officer that offers help with his personal vested interest forms the rest of the interesting tale.

The movie length is a tad long, close to 2 hours and 25 minutes; unusual for a thriller. A new concept and a brilliantly edited film with a promising star cast. If you are looking to watch an interesting movie with an unexpected twist, you simply cannot miss Gentleman.
