BEWARE OF THE RS.99 MY DOLLAR SHOP

I must be honest and admit that I am a sucker when it comes to advertising. I saw this ad in the local newspaper about american products being sold for Rs.99/-. I could not believe it. So on a Sunday I went all the way to Phoenix Mills, Parel, Mumbai to visit this store which sold American products for Rs.99/-. The rush at this place was so much that it felt as if the people visting the store were told that if they did not pick up the stuff today for Rs.99/- they would have to let go of it forever. People were buying like crazy.

I honestly could not believe Hersheys syrup being sold for Rs.99/- or for that matter family size Van Houten chocolates being sold for Rs.99/-. It seemed unbelievable. And yes I did buy a few things. But the whole thing is a scam. Please read what I have to say very carefully.

  1. The stuff that is being sold is not the variety you get in the United States but rejected stuff that the US consumers did not like. Colgate Shaving Gel - eeks! I would ask myself -'So what'. If the product is good why not buy it for Rs.99/-. But hang on. There is a flip side.

  2. The chocolates and food items are genuinely manufactured in the United States of America. The catch is that they are nearing their expiry dates. Meaning that if the product like Pringles Chips or Oreos are not consumed by say the end of November, 2004 it's toxic waste.

The problem with the public is that the Rs.99/- figure blinds them and no one bothers to see the expiry label. I think I am the only chap who does.

  1. The other products that are being sold like shampoos, lotions, face creams, underarm sprays, deodrants are manufactured by companies no one has even heard the name of. Have you heard of Vedal shampoo or LORAL hair color. All duplicate'Made in China' stuff.

First of all we Indians, do not deserve to be sold stuff rejected by the Americans and the American public at large. Second of all we do not need cheap'Made in China' shampoos, lotions, face creams, underarm sprays, deodrants or for that matter eat food stuff which are nearing their expiry dates. American Companies are willfully sending the stuff here and selling them for cheap because if they had sold this kind of expired food stuff over there, the Company would have been sued.

I do not know how far this is true but I personally believe that in the US, American laws are followed by American Companies with conviction. But outside the borders of the US of A, the very American Companies who follow the same laws in the US do not give a damn about the said laws because the people getting screwed and eating the expired bad food stuff are not Americans but Asians or Africans or from some poor country.

So people please do watch out. The Rs.99/- my dollar store at Goregaon E, Malad, Phoenix Mills, Parel is a very ingenious rip off. So do not get cheated and remember - there are many other better things you can do with your Rs.99/-. Thank's a lot for reading!
