Branded vs Assembled??

Before moving into my own house, I'd already decided on investing in an electric chimney- therefore, went about looking at different brands of these available in the market - KAFF ,FABERetc .

A variety of options were available & all looked very nice but also exorbitantly priced. Most of the sales people took pains in explaining the features such as superior copper finish , easy-to-maintain stainless steel body, baffle filter(what was that??), very convenient to clean, also available complete package-with hob,blah,blah..... I wondered why something that would make my kitchen smokeless was going to cost me anything between 15,000 to 30,000.

It was high time I did a little research of my own. After getting advice from an expert restaurateur,I went to a local supplier who undertook all the manufacturing of kitchen equipments for restaurants, hotels etc on a commercial basis. Believe it or not , I got an electric chimney plus a 4-burner hob for exactly 7500/- remember, with no compromise on the quality of material used or the functional aspects. Looks?? Well, most people on seeing it have enquired if it was KAFF or FABER ?I have been using it for quite some time now and barring the noise level( same as the branded ones), I find it useful (as useful as an exhaust if not more) and very convenient to clean(you cannot clean an exhaust that easily, can you??).

A few tips to remember though, before you buy an electric chimney:

.Frequency of cleaning the electric chimney should be at least once in 10-14 days

.Cleaning is easier depending upon the filter design of the chimney

.Noise level is high, more than in an exhaust fan

.Installing the chimney at a height as low as 30'' is recommended, though will not be suitable for all( the tendency to get head bumps would be very high if you are towards the taller side !!)

I am not an expert on this subject but I personally feel that the branded ones are exorbitantly priced more for the kitchen fad than anything else and for propagating their looks in the modular kitchen age. It's true that the kitchen does get a modern look when an electric chimney is added to it - but look before you decide(esp. if you have a tight budget) on buying a branded electric chimney.I am not sure if all the commercial suppliers undertake orders like they did for me – no harm in checking out in your city.

The objective of writing this review was that- as an Indian consumer, we need to be more conscious about a product with respect to not only its functional aspects but also its pricing rather than getting attracted to the “imported”labels. It’s consumer age and we, as true consumers need to make the product pricing more and more competitive in order to find it within our reach.
