With 24 book reviews(some plain average and some better ones) in my MS Kitty I have always seen one consistent question each of the comment section. “I wonder how you read so much.” “Where do you take out time from?”

In this review I’ll share my strongly guarded secrets of finding out time to read…

For me Reading means

R         Rejuvenates & relaxes me

E         Entertains & educates me

A         Addictive

D         Defines my thinking

I          Increases my knowledge

N         New learning’s

G         Gifts you something priceless

Since my childhood reading has been a passion for me. I still remember reading novels hidden with my course book and when Ma used to come I used to slip it off behind the bed. I have always been into reading somehow or the other. Time nahin hai to steal…here is what I call

~:~Chintu’s Mantra’s to Read More than More~:~

.:.Prefer buying your own books.:.

*Once you invest money in them the impetus to finish the book increases. I know the books are damn costly, try joining some book club which gives good discounts.

.:.Join some local library.:.

This is for those who are just starting up & don’t want to invest money in books which they will not like to read again. But joining is not the key; the key is **going regularly and exchanging books regularly.

.:.Pick books which interest you.:.

In few words don’t fall into **“I have also read Syndrome” there are certain books which will be recommended by all. For me The Alchemist is one such book. SO many people said it’s a damn good book, I picked the book despite knowing the fact I don’t enjoy reading the genre. Result is the book is in my collection and 3 years have gone and it’s still unread. So pick out books only when they interest you.

.:.Always carry a book with you – Wherever you go book goes with you.:.

Sing U & I with your book. I have this as a thumb rule where ever I go my book goes with me. So that even if I have 15 free minutes I gorge upon the book. Last year I was quite unwell and had to frequently visit a doctor who always took forever and I finished several books in between.

Few quickies where you can carry your books…

If eating alone carry it along, you are killing two birds at a time and ignore when others say you shouldn’t read while eating. My answer to them there are several things which shouldn’t be   done, this is at least not harming anyone.

Carry the book to loo. I know many people would say yuck! But hear me out…so much time is  wasted inside, you would be utilizing it. And I know many people do this but they don't accept it;)

Carry a book while traveling, especially if you have a privilege of staying in traffic heavy city & have a driver at your disposal be it your car driver or bus driver or train driver;)

.:.Read Daily.:.

Even if its only 1-5 pages a day make it a habit to read. The logic here is simple; it keeps your interest alive.

*.:.Never hesitate in getting stuck to a genre.:.

*I love reading Indian authors and have no qualms in accepting it & picking them only because if I pick up something which I like the chances that I’ll finish off the book are brighter.

*.:.Spend some time in a book store & explore.:.

*If you explore you’ll pick up books on your instincts and you’ll feel connected to them & trust me if you pick a book after loads of deliberation & by your instincts you’ll not only feel proud of them but would also love to read them, because they are your discoveries.

*.:.Read Two books at a time.:.

*Why are you staring the screen? You’ve read it correctly. If you are reading a heavy book also start with a light book. Keep alternating between them so that things don’t get monotonous and trust me you’ll enjoy reading this ways. When with one book you’ll crave for the other;)

*.:.Don’t give yourself an Excuse.:.

*Ohhh! I don’t get time, how do you manage? That is the most common excuse which we don’t give to others but to ourselves. There is nothing called lack of time, it’s about taking out time if you really want to.

Leave the TV and pick up books which are much better than what is being played on TV.

.:.Give Trial Run to Books.:.

Before starting a book I try 2-3 books. I finally pick the one which suits my mood at that point of time and thus the chances of finishing it increases.

.:.Kids at Home? .:.

Now this is one scenario where none of the funda’s work. But there is a way to tackle this too. Just pick up a book and even if you are able to read one page a day its ok, it might take you ages to finish it but you’ll be in touch. And the phase will pass.

My bro has a kiddo who like any normal kid knows only one use of books, she likes tearing them apart. So when we need to read in front her, she comes onto the lap the book is given to her and we behave as if we are reading together, this ways it’s a game for her and we end up reading few pages too.

*.:. Don't Be Disheartened if unable to read for few days .:.

*I have friends who complaint am unable to read, am slow. Well my answer these are all ohases which will pass out. Read when you really feel like not zabardasti. Because only if you feel like reading you'll enjoy reading.

*.:.Give Yourself a Break .:.

*Read with breaks. Alternate heavy books with light books, thick books with short stories. This makes reading much more enjoyable.

.:.Borrow Books from a person like me.:.

If you borrow from me I'll hound you till you give my book back. And if you are in a rush to give the book back the chances of reading it jaldi are higher;)

What I have written above are simple things which I do to keep connected with my readings. Beng an avid reader I can not imagine a time when I would be saying that I am not getting time to read, I dread imagining that time. But then I know it will be  a phase that too will pass.

Enough of me, I hope people will come and add a comment about how they take out time to read.

PS    I should thank Seera for suggesting this topic to me & to MS for adding it.
