INTDODUCTION


Sleep is very important thing in life, just like breathing. Insomnia is the inability to have enough and comfortable sleep. Approximately 35% of the world suffers from it. Many people suffer from Insomnia at one point of time. Sleeping is very important for various reasons. Without normal sleep, your grey cells will not work effectively. You lifestyle becomes a boring one and you suffer from a cascade of bad effects. I suffered from insomnia for a while in my childhood and about 5 years ago for about 3 months. Insomnia is a not a disease but a curable condition.


All it takes is some work and a strict regimen to become normal. Too much of a sleep is also not good, in some ways. One has to adhere to a pattern and follow it. Three days good and long sleep and four days having less sleep is as detrimental as suffering from Insomnia. Thus, one can say that sleep is a luxury and others can say it is a waste of time. Both can be right, in a way. On the contrary, both can be wrong. Why? We shall examine it via this review


SLEEP - AN ANALYSIS


Sleep is a biological behavior controlled by the master of the body - brain. It is one of the most complex process controlled by the brain and it follows a pattern every 86400 seconds. While the newborns sleep almost 3/4 th of a day, we tend to sleep lesser and lesser as we grow. It is during the sleep that some of the bodily functions take place. For lack of better analogy, you can say during the time we are awake, we do online transactions and do batch(backend) processing while we sleep. We need this batch processing to run, in order to keep our CPU(brain) running perform online(daytime) transactions.


It is very much during the sleep that the teens have their growth hormones working increasingly that makes them sleep late and wake up later. Parents keep this in mind and give them their benefits. While growing, sleep does play a major role in shaping up a person. I am pretty sure that my sleep during my teenage was pretty good for I grew up real fast!.


Melatonin is the hormone that causes you sleepiness and it is the hormone that induces the metabolic changes that happen in your body during the sleep. This is the very hormone that induces various changes during adolescence(Doctors, please confirm!).


The beautiful aspect of sleep is the REM(Rapid Eye Movement), which is the second stage of the four levels of sleep, as per doctors. It is during the REM that dreams occur(remember). REM is the period of the time when most of the bodily relaxation occurs and the time when the body finds peace. This is the time almost everyone get angry to an extent of killing someone, when disturbed. REM is a beautiful time and occurs in phases, Especially 2 hours into sleep, and for a long period at 5-6 hours. This time is must and one should sleep to have a nice REM. The non-REM sleep during stages 2, 3 & 4 is as important but we sleep mostly at stage 2.


During sleep

~Veins and Arteries relax


~ Blood pressure goes down, thus improving cardio-vascular system


~ Rest for the brain, eyes


All of them do immensely good to the body.


If you deprive sleep you can induce


~ Drowsiness in body


~ Obesity


~ Short term amnesia


~ Fatigue


~ Concentration Loss


~ Aging


~ Risks of infection and diseases like diabetes, cardiac and gastrointestinal ones as WBC and cortisol production is prevented


TIPS ON SLEEPING HABITS


Actions - Try these doable mental actions, and follow them when you can.


~ Do not be anxious


~ Do not Panic!


~ Do not over stress yourself


~ Enjoy and Relax


As you need a nice environment


~ Have a nice light setting in the place you sleep


~ Have a comfortable bed, pillow and comforters and do not try experimental ones unless you get it recommended by a trusted doctor


~ Have a nice and comfortable temperature in the room - Neither too hot nor cold


Follow these physical actions.


~ Exercise well and breath well. Go to a park or a place where you can breathe fresh air and relax


~ Eat in an orderly fashion


~ Enjoy a book or a relaxing movie before sleep.(Do not get frustrated with a bad movie. Try your experimentation during daytime when it comes to movies)


~ If possible take power naps or afternoon naps


~ Eat nice snacks and fruits


~ Do not drink suppressants such as Cola, Coffee, Tea, Chocolate et al


~ Try fruits such as Mangoes, Banana and Nuts such as Cashew et al


~ Do not eat heavily during night. Remember the proverb'Eat breakfast like a knight. Lunch like a king and Dinner like a Pauper'. Heavy dinner means heavy-duty work during sleep, which is relatively harmful.


~ Read, Read, Read. Read some engrossing and enjoyable books. It is rightfully said that you they make you sleep.


~ If you are married, enjoy the best form of sleep inducer.


~ Do not modify your sleep pattern, even if it is a day off, for the next few days after your'Rip Van Winkle' you will suffer.


I have tried many of these and my insomnia does not affect me. While many of you wonder if I sleep at all, let me tell you that I sleep and I sleep very well.


CONCLUSION


Like the bard of Stratford-upon-Avon said once, sleep is very important and it is the chief nourisher in life?s feast. Once should never slip on sleep. A sound mind is in a sound body. A sound body is built by sound sleep. If you lack sleep, you will lack many things as a cascade effect. People who lack sleep build most of the inefficient products. Most of the accidents happen due to lack of concentration. This is caused either by lack of sleep or alcohol induced ones. Without sleep, your master, the brain will not function effectively. Hence, Sleep well and sleep tight.
