Who says looks are not important ?

Who says looks are not important? We judge a book by its cover? why not people?

Five steps to a well-groomed personality?

  1. Posture? Whether you stand tall or slouch shabbily reflects the confidence that you have in yourself. That long stride is reminiscent of a world conquered. That easy arrogance speaks of a person used to getting his way. Tummy in and chest out is the way to go, guys AND gals. So, square your shoulders and put that spring in your step!

  2. Hair-style? Ladies, you spend thousands on gold ornaments? mangalsutra, elaborate bindis, ornate engagement rings and strange-looking hair shenanigans? How about a cool hairstyle? Something that frames your face and flatters the facecut? How about forsaking that kali mata style for something smart and manageable?

For guys, no long sideburns unless you?re going in for an Elvis Presley look-alike contest. Short is generally suitable but I must admit I have also admired pony-tails like that seen currently on Arindam Choudhary.

The worst hairstyle that I?ve ever seen is people trying to sweep scarce side hair on the top of their head. Hey, what?s wrong with baldness, for God?s sake? Arnold Vosloo of?Imhotep the Mummy? fame is one of the best looking men ever, baldness notwithstanding.

The next worst thing that anybody can do with their hair is to henna it bright orange. For Pete?s sake, there are many good hair colors in various brands and prizes available? when are we going to admit that it?s a better option than henna?

Skin? In Delhi, summers are hardly over before the winters run in. Skin-care is a must. Some of the usual boo-boos are cracked lips, dry-looking hands, cracked heels. For ladies, leftovers of yesterday?s lipstick and chipped nail polish are highly avoidable. It takes very little effort to maintain a clean, fresh-looking skin with an even tone. Throw in some moisturizer for skin & hands, good old Vaseline for lips and a foot care cream. Add to it healthy eating, lots of water, enough sleep, good lifestyle? easy, isn?t it?(being sarcastic here)

Another welcome addition here are White Teeth. So, take good care of those pearly whites. Egg on your face in the early-morning is a sight designed to daunt the most benevolent boss.

Fragrance? Not the kind that makes people start choking and gagging as soon as you enter. I?ve seen both men and women obnoxiously and heavily perfumed. The best kind of fragrance to choose is a light, fresh scent that stays close to you instead of floating ahead of you five Km ahead and beyond and heralding your arrival well before you choose to come in.

Clothes and footwear? Here are some subpoints to consider when deciding -

a. Suitability to weather? usually taken for granted

b. Suitability to individual

c. Avoid ill-fitting/tight-fitting clothes? I don?t care how low the jeans are this year. Or how tight the tops? you still got to breath, don?t you?

d. Ironing? rumpled Tees may make you look cool buster, but it?s only in your imagination.

Now, footwear?

a. Let it not be muddy/dirty

b. Let it have as much of a heel as you can comfortably walk around 4 miles in. That is the average amount of walking a person does in one day.

c. Let it grip your foot well.
