Things to Keep In mind while Internet Shopping

I have been shopping on internet for the past 4 years now and I have bought stuff from sites like eBay, Indiatimes, Rediff, Indiaplaza, PDA Den, HP India, Deals4all, Yatra, MakeMyTrip, etc. I am putting down some of my experience and tips that I think everyone should take care of.

  1. SITE SECURITY -Check whether the site is secure or not. How do you do that, the page that asks you to fill Credit Card Information should have address beging with HTTPS instead of HTTP. Example it should he https://ebay.in and not https://ebay.in. HTTPS is a secure network protocol for transferring data what that basically means is that your card information is  encripted before it is send on internet and no one can read it. Always check it before you give your Credit Card information.

  2. OFFERS -Almost all sites have offers, but what I have noticed that they give officers only on products which are discontinued. Example I came across Hp photo printer 335 on Indiatimes offer. When I checked on HP site, the product was discontinued, so they were just selling what was remaining. What it means is that you won't get service for product. Always check regarding the status of product.

3.NEVER GIVE YOUR CARD DETAILS - Some sites will call you for your card details(example eBay). Do not ever give your CVV or CVV2 number to them. If they insist cancel the order. Here is my experience. I bought a product from INDIATIMES and they called me for card details. I was hesitant, but they told me that everyone is giving, So I also gave them. 2 months later I got a call from bank that someone has done a transaction of 50, 000 on my card, my good luck was that my card did not had that limit so the transaction did not go through, so I canceled my card and got a new one. DON"T EVER GIVE YOUR CARD DETAILS TO ANYONE

  1. BIDDING/AUCTIONS -One thing  we all like is to BID and sometimes just to defeat the other bid we place a BID that is even more than the price of the product. My TIPS

i) While biddig check on different sites the cost of the product.

ii) Never Bid on OLD products, you may end up paying more that what actually it is worth.

iii) You should stop bidding 1k to 4k less than the price of the product, example nokia n93i cost 39, 000 your maximum bid should not be more than 35, 000, similarly blackberry 9310 costs 11500 your maximum bid should be 10, 000.

iv) There is no point in defeating others bid, remember you need to pay for the item once the Bid is over.

  1. Verified by VISA / Matercard - There are many sites out there on which you shop, they will have a option of payng through Verified by VISA / Mastercard. What it means that you don't have to enter your Credit Card Details, you will have another number and it will ask you for your date of birth and a security answer. ASK you BANK for it. I know HSBC Bank has it, you can get your code online. HDFC has a netsafe card which generates a new card online and you can set the card limit. Ask your bank they will have some option or another. USE SUCH THINGS, THEY ARE GOOD!

  2. MY RATED COOL SITES -with my experience so far, INDIAPLAZA( http://www.indiaplaza.in) is a really good site for shopping, products are good and so is their packing and delivery. If you are looking for accessories for phone, then https://pdaden.com is a really cool site and they have good customer service and delivery. My experience with indiatimes and deals4all has not been good, they are not commited. EBAY( http://www.ebay.in) is also a good site to buy things, but you need to be very carefull before buying(they have a system of ratings, etc which you should see before you buy).

HAPPY SHOPPING!
