Save yourself from Online Frauds
Dec 21, 2015 12:10 PM 3255 Views

Online transactions has become an integral part of our life. Shopping is no longer restricted to shopping malls and shopping markets. It has become a part of our living and bedroom activity after a hard day out at office or business dealings. Online Shopping has in fact  evolved to be a mode to relax and have fun on your favorite crouch. Choosing from hundreds of products with great deals and getting the same home delivered has worked to its advantage. Paying bills and recharging has also made life easy but at the same time as we use the online mode of payment at a furious frequency we have become susceptible to various online frauds.

The ease of money transfer has made us more reckless which is taken advantage of by the lurking sharks on unsuspecting cosumer’s. Typically the younger generations are more likely victims as a world wide survey has indicated. They are more inclined to take the ease of transaction or we may call comfort  from one level to the next level at the expense of security.

Online frauds can be minimized though can not be eliminated 100% if we religiously take care of the following and such list will grow over time as it is only inclusive and exhaustive:

a> Never to make payment or visiting any payment site / banking site by clicking on  any link sent to us through mail / sms even though we are cent percent sure to be from a trusted source.

b> To use the virtual keyboard almost always when even possible as we key in the password while making payments as it will help prevent hackers / virus form coping your password. The position of the letters / numbers changes in the virtual keyboard every time the page refreshes therefore tracking become’s almost impossible.

c> To look for the lock sign at the start of the web address.

d> Never let the password manager of your browser or any software remembers your use id or password. We should avoid the option provided by the shopping sites/payment sites to remember your Debit / Credit Card number.

e> OTP pin may be used whenever option is available.

f> Cash on delivery may be selected as preferred mode of payment.

g> Installing & updating the latest antivirus(not the free ones). It us just like health insurance which we tend to ignore but repent when we are affected.

h> Always we should type the banking / payment banker web address on the web bar and look for the secure lock.

i> Never leave your computer unattended when logged in, and always log out properly when you've finished your banking session

j> Avoid public computers for online shopping /  banking

k> Our wi-fi network should be secure with strong password, to prevent unauthorised users accessing it

l> Regularly log in and check your statement, looking for unusual transactions.  Immediately report unfamiliar items to your bank

m> We should not respond to emails or phone calls that purport to be from your bank and ask for your security information
