The first thought that runs through my mind when I think about the Indian media is why our media always has to suck up to the Americans. Almost every headline in every damned newspaper out there has to be about what Americans think about us and what their suggestions are regarding the same. And we stare at that piece of sht like dogs craving for more meat. Do we need Condoleeza Rice to be advicing us as to how we can maintain cordial relations with our neighbours? And further do we need our media to be reporting that on the front page? For Christ's sake America needs to do some catching up on maintaining cordial relations. Cuba, Canada and the list goes on. The whole of Middle East is waiting to set Uncle Sam's on fire.

I am afraid I have to compare China and India again as I did in my previous review(Caste based reservations). There was this incident in the US recently where a school boy ran into his class and fired shots at his peers killing some 9 of them in Minnesota. The way this article was reported in Chinese media and Indian media pretty much sums up the ideas behind this review. A Chinese portal sino.com had this to say about the incident(the original news item was in Chinese and I had to get a friend to translate it for me). 'It comes as no surprise that such incidents are common in America where culture takes a back seat and children are brought up in an environment where guns are a common fare. It is a worrying prospect that the future of America is in the hands of such men who have strong inclinations towards Nazi ideals and who have no control over their actions. Just makes us wonder all the more as to how America still considers itself to be the most secure amongst all nations in the world when such a turmoil is brewing inside. Ironic aint it?'.

Now let us look at how the Indian media reported the same incident. 'On this day our prayers go out to the parents who lost their children. It is such a great loss. The prime minister offered condolences to those who lost their children.' WTF? Is our prime minister that bloody jobless to extend his condolences over some tard who in a frenzy shoots his peers. I mean come on. Did the US of A bother to offer condolence messages when 80 school children were burnt alive in Kumbakonam? And even if the Prime minister did offer his condolence messages the media shouldnt have hyped it up and thus draw the entire world's attention towards the way things are progressing at Lok Sabha that the prime minister has all the time in the world to even be bothering himself with such stuff.

And everytime some American business tycoon praises India for producing high skilled labour it has to be on the headlines. Even Kalam takes the backseat. Makes me want to puke everytime I read such articles. Who the hell cares about what that money making machine has to think about our skilled labour?

All this to an extent suggests why America still views India as some satisfied dog that needs to be offered a few pieces of rotten meat every now and then, while it considers China as a great power if not an equal.

A country's media pretty much reflects the state of mind of it's people and thus projects the country's mindset onto the international arena. Media articles are not generally viewed as an organization's point of view as such but as the respective nation's collective thoughts. Otherwise you cant explain the widespread protests that take place in one part of the world when some newspaper somewhere else projects this country in a bad light. And I feel sorry that the Indian media is a huge letdown when it boils down to this. Rather than projecting ourselves in a positive light we try to place America's opinions about us on a higher plane.

India has for long supported the expansion of Security Council and emphasised on its inclusion as a permanent member. This somehow misses Indian media's attention. All that we get to see about this issue are a few articles rambling on about the foreign minister meeting up with Kofi Annan and others of the same portfolio to get India a permanent seat in the Security Council. How often has the Indian media tried to project India as a not just a potential candidate but as a must be included candidate? Never to be honest. We are satisfied with assurances from other countries and leave it just there. But on the other hand Germany is vigorously promoting itself both within and outside thanks largely to the media there. That is where lies the difference.

Indian media in this sense is a little warped when it comes to the big issue of Indian media being secular. Everything in the Indian media has to be in accord with the whims and fancies of the so called secular politicians(for all the hype about it being free) and leave the rest to rot under the sun. Every single incident of abuse against the minorities has to be blown outta proportion and the majority can just lick their wounds and be happy about being secular. Not saying that the rights of the minorities shouldnt be defended but just asking not to overdo it. No where else in the world would you find the media stooping down to such an extent. Dont intend to harp on this issue.

Final word - Indian media has had a forgettable history of scking up and cant say it better than that.

A few thoughts worth pondering over.  Why does the Indian Press always reflect a Westernised point of view? Why does India’s intellectual'elite', the majority of which happens to be Hindu, always come down so hard on their own culture, their own religion, their own brothers and sisters? Is it because of an eternal feeling of inferiority, which itself is a legacy of British colonisation? These are questions that have been raised often by people like Francois Gautier and still havent been answered.

I believe I can add more to this review but I guess I have conveyed the idea and will pen down my other thoughts later.
