Forwarded Mails

This issue about sending and receiving forwards is definitely a big dilemma. In this mail, I am expressing my personal opinion abut ''Forwards'' which most of the people dislike and are looked upon negatively.

Today, everybody who operates net receives at least 15 mails per day on an average. A large number of these mails is solicitations, chain mails, irritating mails, huge mails that block your account, and forwards sent by unknown people. This also includes some forwards sent to u by people you know.

We need to differentiate between mails send to us by people we know and unknown people. We know that everybody is pressed on time today. It takes a lot of time for people to type on the computer and not everybody is that comfortable with operating computer. Now there are 2 ways of dealing with this problem.

  1. Start ignoring mails which you don't want to reply (which most of us, including myself, do).

  2. Show your acknowledgement of receiving the mail by sending a pre-composed forward which you think that the people will enjoy.

Our main aim is to make others happy and show them that they are important for us. Not sending any mail and ignoring them will definitely not help.

Forwards are usually mails which have been worked upon by individuals or groups. A lot of forwards are a work of art and reflect your thinking or your preferences in life. I think that instead of criticizing these mails we would do better by improving upon these forwards, add something from our side, and let it move on to our friends. How creative are u when you just criticize and delete a mail just because it is a forward.

I feel that instead of rejecting forwards outright we should think about the implications of doing it. When we strike at people for sending forwards, we are in a way telling them that ''Alright, I know that you are pressed on time and you are trying to do your bit by sending the forwards; BUT I DO NOT WANT YOU TO MAIL ME ANYMORE IN THE FUTURE because I cannot understand your feelings, emotions, limitations, and concerns.''

When somebody sends a joke as forward he has put some effort into it by choosing an appropriate joke which he feels will appeal to most of the people. So the person is using his brain for it. HOW MUCH BRAIN DO U USE WHEN U SEND A MAIL, STRIKING BACK AT PEOPLE WHO SEND FORWARDS??? You are representing a general mindless hate towards people who send forwards.

If the problems are with the size of the account, those things can definitely be helped by subscribing to the group-mail from a more spacious account on INDIATIMES (maybe) or Yahoo!!!

I think that we should respect the feelings and concerns that are associated with the forwards and treat them with respect. Somebody has taken time and effort to send those to you. And in case you still do not agree, the facility is always there to just tick the mail and send it to trash bin.

Forwards become forwards because they have some essence in them. Nobody in their sane mind would like to send a meaningless forward. Even if you receive such a meaningless forward, why not think about the fact that ''Although it is meaningless to YOU, it might hold some meaning to the person who sent it to you.''

What would u prefer . ..... receiving a stupid, non-entertaining, and long time-consuming lecturing mail like this one or receiving few jokes of a persons choice

  • Which can make you laugh and feel nice.

  • Which can make you feel that the person is with you telling those jokes to you.

  • Which can make you remind you of the times when he actually used to do that in person.

  • Which can make you feel that the person is with you.

and all this without putting undue pressure on the other person's schedule.

I am sorry if someone takes offence with this mail, but as I told everyone in the beginning of this mail, this is my ''personal'' opinion.
