Few points to consider befor your buy DTH
Jun 11, 2009 04:04 PM 9610 Views

I have been reading a lot of reviews about DTH providers and most of them complain about various things like customer service, pricing, bad hardware etc.

I am myself a TATA sky subscriber and have done quite a bit of survey on all existing DTH players. My guess is that more than 50% customers don't even know the basics before buying a DTH service. So here are a few points worth considering before you choose a service provider:

1. DTH is NOT cheap:If you are fooled by the Rs. 99 per month for 100 channels advertisements, wait a minute and read further. Most of the basic packages starting at Rs. 99 or Rs. 125 won't offer you the same variety of channels. If you want most of the leading channels, be ready to shell out at least Rs. 300-350 per month. I pay around Rs. 340 per month on TATA Sky. So, if you are switching to DTH because you find your cable provider costly, stop right there.

2. DTH is quality: You just can NOT compare cable TV with DTH quality. DTH is at least 1000 times better in picture and sound quality than cable. I am so much satisfied with the quality that I will not go back to the cable TV even if it is given free of cost. But quality comes with a price.

3. There is no 'best' DTH service: Although TATA sky is generally better than anyone else (As you may notice from the reviews), there is no guarantee. Best way is to do a bit of research in your building/locality and find out which service is liked by others. The antenna has to be installed at a particular angle, and hence locality wise feedback becomes important.

4. Don't rely on call centers, use the portal: With 12 million DTH customers, the call center planning of the DTH companies has gone for a toss. For a quick reply, it is always better to use their online portal in my experience.

Hope this helps.
