Since 2008, I have been following developments at Sun Direct HD and I finally decided to take a plunge into HD. Despite the high cost - around Rs 9.8K, this service looks like will remain an exclusivity for a while. That said my entire installation process was extremely smooth and the entire thing was done in 24 hrs flat. Its fairly a simple process- I called the Sun Direct HD call center and placed the order with sales guy, and a technician came the next day afternoon and did a professional and neat installation, and by midnight the service got activated.
The service comes with basic South Pack( almost all popular news and entertainment channels are there) in Standard Definition and 7 HD channels- English HD Music( (Recorded stage concerts), SunTV (HD version), NGC HD, Discovery HD World, HD Tamil, HD Telugu and Colors HD ( has to be added at extra cost).
I opted for Sun Direct mainly for the HD service and they have the first mover advantage and I am not keen on other channels as I already have Tata Sky Plus Mega Pack. I am using HD for the last 10 days and its simply awesome.The pix quality in all the HD channels are stunning and with 5.1 surround sound and 16: 9 aspect ratio makes it clearly a new experience. Due to the razor sharp pix quality one can see very finer details and colors so rich.
Both NGC and Discovery HD makes for addictive viewing and the programs are totally different and outstanding quality.
So far I could not find any issues either with installation or the quality. I hope it remains that way in the days ahead. I would strongly recommend this for anyone with a Plasma or LCD TV and from day one you will realize the huge difference between normal and HD broadcast. This is a service that cannot be defined fully one need to see it to believe it.
While as of now Sun is the only player which has 7 HD channels and BIG TV HD service quality is yet to be seen and I hear its just got only one HD channel.
