People often confuse a Software Eng. as a Hardware expert and dont mind asking the most irrelevent questions to the most irrelevent fellow. This is what someone asked me
'bhaiya, my uncle have one branded computer. it is around 9 yrs old.(Compac desktop Presario. Pentium I, 133mhz). it was working smoothly and never given for any repair. yesterday he just opened the CPU case(for the first time since he brought it.)an closed it. after that the computer is not working!. I removed the EDO ram and switched on the computer to see whether any beep sounds are coming but no beep sounds. I presume the mother board has gone. is it correct? tht type of mother board is not available now so he has to put in garbage.'
Generally, the proper answer for the question goes somwwhat like:
'Of course, it may be a power supply problem, since there is no beep as u say. Check the LEDs properly if the power on LED is on, whether the hard disk LED shows some activity.
U should show it to some hardware guy.
Another thing that you could try is give it a good cleaning with a blower. if u have not opened it for years, there must be a lot of dust accumulated in it. Also, it could be a humidity related problem during these monsoon days. These problems can be removed by using a blower.
Also, remove the RAM, clean it thoroughly, preferrably with isopropyl alcohol, if not then with dry cloth. Then rub /lightly scratch the bottom of the RAM till the golden lines shine. Then clean the RAM slot on the mother using a blower(maybe there is some dust there). Replace the RAM.
Another thing u could try after cleaning it is to leave it on for some time(about half an hour or so), then try rebooting it.
When u switch on the computer, check whether the fans are moving. There is one in the power supply at the back and there is one on top of the CPU. If the power supply fan is moving but the CPU fan is dead, switch off the system immediately to avoid overheating the CPU.
If u r only interested in saving ur data, then first of all remove the hard disk and transport the data to another live computer.'
But at times when you have got better things to do, you just dont feel live giving advice on a Damn P1 Junk machine, or may be Chadis are jus in mood, so here goes my 2 cents and more:

Go to the nearest temple.
Stend in the front of your favorite the Bhagwanji . Krishan Kanaihya is popular.
Look lovingly in to the eyes of the Krishan Kanaihya.
Start singing a nice melodous song. There are many good songs . netizens can suggest song most appropriate for the occasion. Ask them.
Finish the song.
As soon as you finish singing . a the flower will drop from the Mukut of Krishan Kanaiya.

Go home and place flower on the top of the Laptop.
Wait few minutes and Laptop will open itself automatically. You will hear beeps. Windows will open also automatically.
Now get down on your knees . cry . cry . make sure you got tears in your eyes . Now thank Krishan Kanahiya one more time.
Go back to laptop and hug it.
. better dont waste too much time. Bring laptop with you to temple. Bring your uncle as well. Place laptop at the feet of Krishan Kanahiya. Go back to the bells hanging from the ceiling. Start bajaoin them reall loud. Louder the better.
Now while staring lovingly in to the eyes of Krishan Kanahiya . one hand ringing the bells and other hand gesturing to Krishan Kanaiya . tears flowing down your cheeks . start singing.
This is better remedy cause flower will phall directly on top of laptop. If Laptop does not start rining beeps and window mujik within say 30 sec . tell your uncle to tell Krishan Kanahiya something like this: "Hey Kishan . dekh mera bhanja kis pyaar se aas leker tere derwaje per aaya . kyaa tu itna nirdayee hei ke is abod baalak kee arzoo nahee sunega? Krishan Kanahiya, mei is laptop ko destroy kiye iskee sazaa is komal balak cynic ko kyo de rahe ho? Is nadaan baalak ne tera kyaa bigara? Krishan Kanahiya mei tere ko warning dett ager aaj tune is baalak kee prathna nahee sunee to yeh baalka phir kabhee tere derwaje per nahee aayega?"
I am sure . Krishan Kanahiya's hardya will paseej and he drop flower from atop his Mukut.

If you are a christian, take your son along with the computer to the nearest church. Put the computer on the alter, laying it on its side(if it is a tower). Place your son on the computer. Hopefully you have brought your favourite chopping knife, if not borrow one from the priest. Go ahead and sacrifice. At the last moment, you will be halted by a deep sonorous voice and given a little son of a sheep to replace your son. And the laptop will spring to life at the first touch of blood. If there is no deep sonorous voice, then the first touch of blood will spring your laptop to life.
If you are a muslim, you have many choices. You can do the same exact thing as if you were a christian, except replace church with a masjid and your son with your hindu neighbour's or nastik uncle's son. Or you can strap your computer to your waist and head for the nearest airport. At the airport your passport will be checked and'cos you have a muslim name you might be be strip searched. They will find the computer, try to boot it, will not and they will get experts from Compaq(if any are existing else from HP). The computer will be repaired free of charge but they will extract exorbitant shipping fees to send the computer back to your uncle's home.
Tell me, honestly, dont you guys think that a 9 year old P1 desevers the answer:-)
In short, it is time to buy a new one dear:-)
