This article applies to everybody who uses a computer running strictly on Windows 98, 98SE, ME or XP(Home and Professional).

Ever noticed your computer getting slower and slower under normal working conditions.And yes, a day comes when it becomes so slow that it is as good as frozen .An what do you do?

1.Those who know a bit about computers, take a backup of the important data and then go ahead and format/reinstal the WINDOWS.

2.Or else.those who are novices, just call up their respective technical support people to get the problem fixed.

3.Or may be put in a few more RAM chips.

What if I tell you that you can make your computer work faster in the matter of minutes and you need involve anybody else?Interesting, right.!

Now you might think about the way to do it.

Simple

For Windows 98, 98SE and ME:-

1.Click Start->Run->type in'msconfig'->Click OK

2.You will get a'System Configuration Utility' screen coming up.Click on'Startup' tab on the top-right of this screen.You will get into  a list of check-boxes, most of them checked.Just uncheck everything except:-

(A)System Tray

(B)Scan Registry

(C)Load Power Profile

(D)Load Power Profile(It some times appears twice).

(E)Task Monitor

3.Down below, click Apply->then Click OK->The computer would ask you to restart the system.Just restart the system.When the computer comes back up, notice your system working much faster.You may find some taskbar missing but believe me you can locate those in the list of programs.

4.Do this once a month and avoid the slow and sluggish computer.

For Windows XP(Home or Professional):-

1.Click Start->Run->type in'msconfig'->Click OK

2.You will get a'System Configuration Utility' screen coming up.Click on'Startup' tab on the top-right of this screen.You will get into  a list of check-boxes, all of them checked.Down below, there will a tab called'Disable All'.Just click on it.

3.Down below, click Apply->then Click Close->The computer would ask you to restart the system.Just restart the system.When the computer comes back up, notice your system working much faster.You may find a pop-up coming up saying

'You are using a selective startup.'.Down below there will be a check box saying'Do not show this messege again'.Just check that and then click OK.(Applicable to Windows ME as well).

4.Do this once a month and avoid the slow and sluggish computer.

That all for the time being.

Do try this and let me know the results.

Comments are as usual welcome.
