Buying a new car. Review on General Tips on Buying a Car

Well, I read all the reviews on buying a new car and went to buy one but the experience was entirely different. First of all as a lady you start of with a uge disadvantage in that the dealers think you know nothing about cars.

I was looking at WagonR and Santro the Maruti dealer(Spectra Motors) had clean showrooms etc but no cars for test drive they said they would send it later and they never turned up. The Santro dealer(Shreenath Hyundai) was better I test drove and it was fine. Then the paper work. I called a couple of car loan companies namely hdfc bank and icicbank.

The bank guys called back atleast twenty times to fix up appointments and then called up another ten times to reschedule. The hdfcbank fellow did turn up once but then disappeared into the blackhole forever. I got tired of it and asked the dealer who is tied up with icici bank and got the rates.

I talked to the guy on the phone the rates were fixed and they did not budge an inch( all those articles about driving hard bargains is just rubbish). The entire thing was done by the dealers and payment cheques to icici bank also given to car dealers. never met the bank guys at all.

The price of the car was not much negotiable they didn't give much discounts though their after sales service is so far good. The car is in warranty. The car itself is not great value for money but it serves my purpose.

All I can say is unless you really know the tricks of bargaining and have done it before you can get a good deal and if you are a woman out shopping for a car take a guy along even if he is your old servant.
