There is question that has been troubling my mind since quite some time now and I guess its time for a public poll on this.I am a frequent long distance traveller(road) and need a diesel car that can handle most highways(Bihar and M.P. not included.! You get the picture right?) in India apart from my daily city commuting of approximately 50 kms.
**My budget is around 7-8.5 lacs. I am ok with a new or a used car as long as it fits my requirements. After doing some research I have shortlisted:
New Tata Safari LX 2.2 VTT and a Used Skoda Octavia 1.9TDI.
Before you begin saying things like they are totally different segments, different cars etc, please understand that there are a few features which apply to my requirements in both these cars which is why I have shortlisted them. Features like:
Excellent long distance tourers.
Decent on fuel efficiency.
Adequate Power.
Feel safe on highways.
Reliable.
Well established in India.
Comfortable for 4 people(the max I can envision myself carrying).
Decent luggage space.
Usable in the city as well as highway.
Personal liking towards both these cars.
Also, I do not intend to sell my car at any time in the near forseeable future, and hence am not concerned about the re sale value but am really concerned about its durability and quality in the long run. I stay in Bangalore so service is not an issue for any of these cars.
So, it would be great if you readers, could post your comments and views or could send me an M2M mail suggesting your choice between these 2 automobiles and the reasons thereof.
