First thought is about necessity. One really need a car or it is to be kept as a luxury item in the parking space. If not to be used often, it is like keeping jeweler in the safe vault. Decide on this.

Next is the budget. Once bought, the value of the car goes down immediately, and become a second hand or used card. when U want to sell to have an upgraded bigger car. Hence, have an estimate on retention period and spare money available to park the funds in the name of car.

Other important issue is running costs, maintenance costs, insurance etc. They are invisible, but may make a dent in the pocket.

Finally decide, again the same question, whether one need an additional car to the existing fleet on the road. Whether the need can be managed by Taxi / Auto, and hired vehicles for long distance travel with an expert driver.

I have friends, who drive Mumbai to Goa, in one stretch, but is that alright for non-seasoned drivers, specially when going with families, and friends. Half of the joy and enrgies goes of in driving, and feel tired at the end of the journey.
