Helmet in Pune-to be or not to be

I could not find an appropriate sub catagory where I could write about this current scenario of helmets made compulsory for 2 wheeler riders including pilion riders. I find it real stupid, don't you that people are actually protesting against their own safety. Yesterday was the deadline passed by the Mumbai high court for implementing the compulsion of wearing helmets by two wheeler riders. I found morchas on the roads and people in hordes protesting against the implementation of the helmet.

I do not see any reason why a person should not wear helmets while riding on a motorbike or scooter. Firstly it is for his own safety, as it protects his CPU, the brain from haemorrhage, secondly it protects the hair and eyes from all sorts of debris and dirt/pollution, thirdly protects us from extreme conditions of weather/climate.

The lame reasons people do not want to wear helmets for in Pune is because they find helmets uncomfortable and some even say that helmets cause accidents. How stupid can you get. They even think that because of the slow traffic flow in the city helmets are not required cause accidents rarely happen.

Helmet manufacturers have sold lots of helmets in the past few years as this compulsion has been deferred by the courts several times but what I fail to understand is how come the people of Pune, being so IT friendly, and among one of the fastest growing city in our country, can be so retarded in their thinking and remain in the stone age.

I wear my helmet religiously not so much for accident but more to protect my eyes/nose and hair from the pollution. I just hope better sense prevails and this law is implemented without much ado.
