Pre and post delivery check points
Mar 10, 2008 03:24 PM 1905 Views

Most of the points mentioned here may be seen across the net. But this is purely based on my experience(my 2 cents input)*

Reason for this review is I have found many unsatisfied customer due to their's vehicle's manufacturing or transit defects.

These points will be more apt if you go through the other reviews and choose your deserved vehicle first.

*Never Ever accept a vehicle which is registered and delivered in your name before you choosing it.

Pre Registration check points

Full Body check

1.) Control your excitement before doing this check. bcos small defects will not be visible as you are more exited to own than choosing.

2.) Place the vehicle under bright light and view it from a distance. You can easily find the dents from far.(Ask the dealer to clean or wash the vehicles before you choose… if possible. This may not be possible for small buys as the choice is more)

3.) Check the snickering and monograms to be proper and aligned… If any things odd just reject the vehicle bcos. you can’t replicate the original snickering and monogram very easily.

4.) Look for any repaint or touchups. Repainting can be easily found by different is color shades(Some may replace the original body parts with old ones). Touchups can be found by rough paint surface.(There may be dust deposit on wet paint which may not go even after washing)

5.) Check for cracks on glass & plastic parts(Head light, Windshield, indicators, tail lamp…)

*Electrical Fittings check

1.) Check the charge level of battery*… If it is less, ask the dealer to connect a charged battery and start this check.

2.) Check the horn. if there are two make sure both are working.

3.) Check the indicators…. Check whether the blinking is uniform & smooth and all the indicators are of  same color. Now days there are colored bulb with white indicator cover. So check whether all the four indicators are having same color shades.

3.) Check for the tail lamp to glow on applying the back brake and also for front brake(if in spec)

4.) Checking head light.(Tail lamp should also glows)

1.) Check parking lamp.(tail lamp should also glows)

2.) Check High Beam

3.) Check Low Beam

Check the bulb not to blow off on high acceleration. In some vehicles the alternators will be flaw so that the head light blows away on high acceleration.

5.) Checking the cluster. Check all the back light of cluster is glowing properly. Check for the needle to show zero

Check all the dials work properly.(Except fuel which is covered in after delivery list). Check for the odometer to show less than 10 Kms.(Normally it will be … if not ask dealer for justification)

Mechanical Parts Checking

1.) Start the engine and listen to idling sound*. No extra sound should come from engine.(if you cant recognize the sound… take a good trusted mechanic.(Some show rooms give incentives for mechanic for choosing their vehicles)

2.) Check for the clutch to be smooth.

3.) Check for the gear shifting to be smooth for all gears.(Just do this test by keeping the vehicle on stands.(I don’t think so you can test driver all vehicles before confirming)

4.) Check for any bend in the rims.(Mostly caused in transportation)

5.) Check the movement of shocks to be smooth.

6.) Park the vehicle on its main stand and see whether it is straight… Some damages occur during transportation.

7.) Check for the handle bars to be straight. Even a slightly bended handle bar will give shoulder pain on long run…

*Other Parts Checking

1.) Brand of cluster*. Same manufacture use cluster from various vendors. Choose for the best brand os cluster

2.) Brand of tires. Same manufacture use tires of various brands.  Choose good brand….(This lasts long with good grip)

*Make a note of the chassis number and Engine number of the vehicle you have chosen.

Post Registration check points

*Cross check for the following details before taking the vehicle for delivery.

1.) Check the Engine and Chassis number to matchthe one you have noted down.(Some time the vehicle gets mixed up by mistake). If not matching, nothing much can be done but at least you can do a check again and rectify things before riding home J

2.) Check for your name to be properly mentioned in RC book.(No dealer does the registration for free. They get money from you so push them to help if anything goes wrong.)

3.) Check the Chassis and Engine number to be correct in RC book.(If wrong… this becomes a very big problem in the future).

4.) Check for the road tax receipt to have the correct  engine and chassis number.(Once it got chaged for me with other bikes’ and I had to pay the road tax again to get a NOC)

5.) Check the vehicle to be cleaned properly and up to your satisfaction.

6.) Check whether the accessories promised by dealer are fixed. If not in stock, get a note to fix it in future. Without proof nothing will happen.

7.) Take a test drive(for first drive). If you feel anything to be adjusted for you, request and get it done there itself.(Don’t give your new vehicle to a road side garage for tuning brakes and clutches. They may not have the proper tool to do it.)

Last but not the least

*Consider the new vehicle as a new entry to your family.

Your love and care for it will never go in vain. Your vehicle will be loyal to you.

As new born babies need more care, take care of your new vehicle with regular checkups until the engine gets seasoned properly

Any more tips please add it in comments….
