I went to see Swades with a half mind because of the reviews I have heard about the movie... ''but anyway its Shah rukh'' was my friend's comment. ''And lets have a look at Gayathri joshi'' was another thought.
Gayathri is not a new face for us. We've been seeing her for quite sometime on TV commercials , Roadside banners modelling for Sarees , and some phone-in programme on TV. Simple looks with sharp features ...the description of any normal man's dream girl who can be taken home to mommy. She usually isn't given much dialogue as per my memories of her commercials .. I believe she was last seen in dettol soaps ''Iska khayal kaun rakhega'' bit.
Ashutosh G brought a brilliant girl into bollywood in his earlier venture, Gracy singh who again was Simple , Pretty , and ''G''named but no sign of her after 2-3 hits and a few floppies. Gayathri IMHO has overtaken Gracy in her debut.. It may be the character or the acting anyway Gita is certainly seen superior than gauri (what again G?)...
The character Gita is a school teacher who has a vision and a mission in life and her own set of complexes and ego. Nobody narrates this stuff in the film but gayathri has very well brought out the character of gita. She looks amazing in the film. Properly covered heroine (Great collection of sarees and salwars even during songs!!) is surely a relief compared to the skin shows.
Two particular scenes bring out the best in a debutant. The scene where she has a fight with king khan while he is taking a bath and another when they fight after she drives away a prospective husband. Though good at fighting and a nosey smile. She has to improve on the emotions.... she really thinks twice before spilling tears.
Anyway welcome to bollywood Gayathri. Hope you'll not resort to the boring- semi-bare bolly actress routine.
